Standard Screen; Soundtrack English In Howard Hawks's screwball masterpiece adapted from the stage play THE FRONT PAGE by Ben Hecht and Charles MacArthur, star reporter Hildy Johnson (Rosalind Russell), once married to suave editor Walter Burns (Cary Grant), plans to leave the stressful newspaper world behind and marry a boring insurance agent. Walter won't reveal his feelings for Hildy but tries to keep her from leaving by convincing her to cover one last story, a politically motivated execution. When the convict manages to escape, chaos breaks loose, and Hildy finds herself working alongside Walter to break the story wide open.
HIS GIRL FRIDAY is a loose, freewheeling gem featuring some of the fastest dialogue ever filmed (peppered with inspired ad-libbing by Grant and Russell, each appearing at comedic high points in their careers). Hawks, who changed the original story of two newspapermen into a battle of the sexes, keeps the frenetic action careening forward and allows a few slim but luminous notes of genuine affection to slip into Hildy and Walter's storm of hilarious verbal barbs, creating a potent and heartfelt classic that stands as one of the most influential comedies ever made. HIS GIRL FRIDAY was added to the Library of Congress National Film Registry in 1993.
The film is remake of the original 1931 version, THE FRONT PAGE, directed by Lewis Milestone. His Girl Friday Reviews: "...One of the funniest American films ever made....Brilliant ensemble cast..." -- Rating: A

His Girl Friday film
$10.15 Long hailed as a roots classic, THE SAME SONG is the full-length debut of the popular reggae trio known as Israel Vibration. The group's members, Cecil Spence, Albert Craig and Lascelles Bulgrin have known each other and have been performing together for many years. All were crippled in infancy during Jamaica's 1950s polio epidemic and met in Kingston's Rehabilitation Center. They were expelled from the center when they began to grow dreadlocks in accordance with their Rastafarian beliefs, and thereafter supported themselves with their music.
THE SAME SONG, released in 1978, is stirring, straightforward roots reggae, characterized by the trio's distinctive, gentle harmonies and strong Rastafarian messages of tolerance, understanding and transcendence. The title track, "Why Worry," and "Walk The Streets Of Glory" are only some of the standout cuts ...

In hindsight, Luther Vandross's debut should be viewed as one of the most important R&B records of the 1980s. With its balance of slick, buoyant, uptempo numbers and lush, mid-tempo tunes, both of which are distinguished by Vandross's inimitably smooth voice and delivery, '81's NEVER TOO MUCH ushered in a distinctive brand of satin-sheeted, romantic R&B that carried throughout the rest of the decade and into the '90s and 2000s.
The writing, arrangements, and performances on the album are consistently strong, and many of the cuts made significant dents in the R&B charts (including the title track, which went to number one). Yet it is Vandross's treatment of the Bacharach-David song "A House Is Not a Home" that is the album's true highlight. Evocative, lonely, and heartbreaking, Vandross truly makes the song his own (besting even Dionne Warwick's popular version). Quiet Storm R&B gathered a lot of momentum in the early '80s; and Luther Vandross--as heard here-- was one of the best and most influential practitioners of the style.
Recorded at Media Sound, New York, New York. Includes liner notes by Brian Chin.
Personnel: Luther Vandross (vocals); George Wadenius, Steve Love (guitar); Nat Adderly, Jr. (keyboards); Ed Walsh (synthesizer); Marcus Miller ...

His Girl Friday film
$31.29 I LOVE LUCY debuted in 1951 and quickly set a new standard for situation comedy with its well-crafted plotlines, live tapings, multiple camera angles, and one of the finest ensemble casts in television history. Centered around the domestic life of zany redhead Lucy Ricardo (Lucille Ball) and her Cuban-born husband Ricky (Lucy's real-life spouse Desi Arnaz), the series also broke the cultural taboos of the whitebread 1950s by featuring an interracial marriage and a female lead who was less than the obedient housewife. Indeed, it was Lucy's neverending quest to muscle in on her husband's show business career--often with the help of meddlesome next-door neighbors Fred (William Frawley) and Ethel Mertz (Vivian Vance)--that provided the show its main comedic thrust and continues to lend it ...
| | Amityville Horror DVD (2005) Full Frame; Dubbed; Subtitled
His Girl Friday review
$9.69 This frightening remake of the 1979 horror classic from producer Michael Bay (THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE) delves deeper into the supposedly true story of supernatural events that occurred in a Long Island, New York home in the '70s. When George and Kathy Lutz (Ryan Reynolds and Melissa George) come across a beautiful river-front colonial home being sold for a steal, they suspect a catch. Once informed that the home was the site of a grisly mass murder, they decide to buy the house anyway and eagerly move in, bringing with them Kathy's three children from a previous marriage. While no one can deny that the house is rife with spooky sounds, the family members try to put their fears at bay. But over time, strange occurrences start happening, becoming more and more frequent, and these events start to have a transformative effect on several family members. Kathy's daughter starts to act bizarrely, ending up in a variety of life-threatening situations, led by her new, not-so-imaginary friend Jody (one of the children slaughtered in the house years before by her older brother). Likewise, something strange seems to be happening to George. His usually sweet demeanor is replaced with a hostile one, and he starts cruelly taking out his aggression on Kathy's children. Kathy's original assumption that a house cannot be evil is challenged as she watches her husband transform into the sort of man that just might be capable of murdering his family. Faster-paced than the original, THE AMITYVILLE HORROR keeps viewers on the edge of their seats with ...
