Soundtrack English; English Subtitles A group of surrealist artists and writers gather to discuss sex in this Alan Rudolph ensemble film, loosely based on Jose Pierre's actual 1928-1932 Paris study. Neve Campbell and Robin Tunney star as stenographers hired to both transcribe the sessions and act as muses for the male subjects. Alan Cumming, Elliot Davies, Terence Howard, and Til Schweizer play some of the artists present, who delve into topics like bestiality, onanism, and menage-a-trois. Their leader, Edgar (Dermot Mulroney), is in love with a female demon that haunts his dreams, much to the annoyance of his flesh-and-blood girlfriend (Julie Delpy). Nick Nolte and Tuesday Weld give the film's best performances as Edgar's boozy, sex-crazed sponsors. The characters gather in a modern art-filled room and an orgy practically ensues as they find themselves liberated by the erotically transgressive talk and surroundings. The script by Rudolph and Michael Henry Wilson utilizes the actual session transcriptions to create an overflow of poetic, insightful dialogue. Another of Rudolph's signature explorations of jazz-age love and artistic camaraderie (see also THE MODERNS and DOROTHY PARKER AND THE VICIOUS CIRCLE), it's set in 1924 Cambridge, Mass, but filmed in Berlin.

$16.89 The title refers to the night when three men, Randy (Matt Dillon), his cousin Carl (Paul Reiser) and Detective Dehling (John Goodman), all meet Jewel Valentine (Liv Tyler) at a bar called McCool's. Actually, they don't so much meet her as fall under her spell when they first lay eyes on her. In her clinging red dress she looks like a cross between a beautiful damsel in distress and the Lady In Red looking for John Dillinger. The story begins ...

Intimate Affairs review
THE BALLAD OF LUCY WHIPPLE is an entertaining, star-studded CBS adaptation of the best-selling children's novel by Karen Cushman. Set during the height of the 1880s Gold Rush, this colorful depiction of one family's move to the West, fraught with hardship and colorful adventures, stars Glenn Close as Arvella Whipple, a widowed mother who decides to move her family from Massachusetts to the dusty depots of California. Jena Malone stars as Arvella's oldest daughter, California Morning Whipple, an intellectual 12-year-old who detests the idea of moving to California so much that she changes her name from California to Lucy, a prim and proper New England name. The Whipples make their home in Lucky Diggins, a rough and rowdy mining town full of characters ...

Intimate Affairs film
Based on Danny Hoch's one-man play of the same name, JAILS, HOSPITALS, AND HIP-HOP is a highly impressive commentary on urban culture's staggering influence over mainstream America, as well as the rest of the world. The film consists of a series of short scenes involving eight different characters (all played by Hoch, in an electrifying display of versatility), each of whom describes his own ...
