| | Genesis 1976-1982 CDs (2007) Box Set
Tilt album
$89.39 When Peter Gabriel left Genesis in the mid 1970s to pursue a solo career, drummer Phil Collins was moved to vocals and the band continued to release influential albums of smart, complex, progressive rock. This deluxe 12-disc box set focuses on the band's albums from this period and up through the early '80s (when they began to produce more pop-oriented material), making it a definitive portrait of the band at one of its many creative peaks.
But while the original music is crucial, it's only one of several draws of 1976-1982. Each album features crisply remastered sound, allowing the sophistication of the arrangements and the quality of the musicianship to truly pop. Moreover, each album is paired with a DVD featuring a 5.1 audio mix and extra video material, including interviews, promo videos, and live footage. Additionally, there is a bonus disc of singles, rarities, and B-sides, as well as a lavish, 48-page, photo-packed book. This beautifully assembled box is a must for Genesis fans, and a great way for casual fan to delve into one of the band's most fruitful periods.
This set of 6 CD/DVD sets of studio albums covers the period in the band's career from the late 70s through the early 80s when Phil Collins took over lead vocals plus drumming and songwriting. This boxed set includes albums A Trick Of the Tail, Wind & Wuthering, ...

| | Bathory Blood On Ice CD (1996)
Tilt music CDs
$16.05 Most of the songs on BLOOD ON ICE were recorded in 1988 and 1989, and remained unreleased for several years. Bathory remastered the original tapes and added some new material for this 1996 album.
Bathory's famed lost album, Blood on Ice, was originally recorded in the late '80s, smack-dab in the middle of the Swedish group's revolutionary transition from its barbaric black metal beginnings to the ambitiously orchestrated Viking metal of its golden era. At the time, the work was deemed far too big a departure by band mastermind Quorthon, who, among other things, shockingly substituted his raspy croak for actual singing throughout -- but, as with any abandoned project, retrospective evidence also suggests that Quorthon was also less than secure about whether his songwriting and musicianship were yet developed enough to fulfill his vision. Shrouded in mystery for the ensuing half-decade, Blood on Ice was finally resurrected and completed (replete with story-advancing sound effects) to Bathory's satisfaction in 1996, at which time it was released to widely deserved critical and fan acclaim, despite a few but distinct shortcomings that placed its overall achievement slightly below that of acknowledged triumphs like Blood Fire Death and Hammerheart. Sliding into gear rather slowly with tentative offerings like the title track, "One Eyed Old Man," and "The Sword" (which sounds way too similar to Manowar's "Blood ...

| | Kevin Coyne Marjory Razorblade CD (1973)
Tilt CD music
$7.09 MAJORY RAZORBLADE is a 22-track release by avant-garde artist Kevin Coyne that includes "Marjory Razorblade," "Marlene," and "Talking To No One."
Of the four or five Kevin Coyne albums that fans routinely describe as his best ever, Marjory Razorblade is by far the best known in the wider world, a consequence not only of the enormous critical splash it made upon its original release in 1973, but also because of the ripples it continued sending out long after the fact. Four years later, Sex Pistol Johnny Rotten singled out the album's "Eastbourne Ladies" as one of his all-time favorite records, while the strumming, thrumming "Marlene" is one of those records whose failure to become a monster hit single continues to baffle and bewilder. (Even Virgin thought so, as they proved when they gave it a second chance in 1977.) Yet "Marlene" is just one highlight amid a storm-tossed sea of the things. A glimpse into Coyne's early influences is provided by a brace of Carter Family covers, a knockabout romp through "Lonesome Valley" and a nearly bluegrass-colored "Heaven in My View," while his eye for distinctly English working-class archetypes is unrelenting. Vacationing Anglos romp through "This Is Spain," a deliciously wry study of the suspicions that beset every Continental tourist during the first years of package holiday-making, while "Jackie and Edna" transplants much the same characters to a dour English beachfront, and turns their discomfort inwards.
The clashing of Coyne's characteristically sharp, tuneful poetry with deliberately warped imagery is breathtaking. The title track, a couple of minutes of a cappella poetry sliced out of the live favorite "Suite Marjory Razorblade," makes an excellent bed for "Marlene" to emerge from, and the remainder of side one (on the original vinyl) rattles along with express-train precision, bound for the furious blues boogie of the aforementioned "Eastbourne Ladies," a compulsive examination of the elderly inhabitants of that (and every other) English seaside town. But the ramshackle "Karate King," sounding like it's being sung through a telephone ...

| | Holmes Brothers State Of Grace CD (2007)
Tilt album
$14.25 The long-running vocal trio the Holmes Brothers has been mixing up a potent blend of R&B, blues, gospel, and country since 1980. This sympathetic, raw-sounding production features a wide-ranging collection of songs by artists like Nick Lowe, Rick Nielsen, Lyle Lovett, and George Jones, as well as by the Brothers themselves. Led by Wendell Holmes, the band's trademark harmonies soar on cuts like Lowe's "(What's So Funny 'Bout) Peace Love and Understanding," Jones's "Ain't It Funny What a Fool Will Do," and their own gospel-infused "Standing in the Need of Love." The disc also features a charming Cajun version of John Fogerty's "Bad Moon Rising." Guests include Joan Osborne, Rosanne Cash, and the Band's Levon Helm.
