Richard Elliot Metro Blue Songs Metro Blue Music Review Average Rating: (3.7 out of 5 stars) Much better then good I've been listening to Richard Elliot since 1991 ("On the Town"). Perhaps "Metro Blue" is not his best album however belongs to my favorite together with "Chill Factor" (99) and "Jumpin' Off" (97). What is very important, all the tracks on "Metro Blue" - from top to bottom - do not disappoint. Another advantages - diverse and melodic compositions, rather softer and effortless sounding of Richard's tenor saxophone in comparison to his early albums and substantial contribution of Rick Braun. Perhaps we should expect a collective project of both musicians from Artizen Music Group. Submitted by Janusz (Krakow, Poland) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Bob Berg-ish This album sounds a lot like some of Bob Berg's stuff only a bit more awesome. If you dig Soft-Porn-Jazz then you will like this album. Submitted by Michael Gordon (Christchurch, New Zealand) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Mediocre Elliot Not one of Richard Elliot's better efforts even with Rick Braun producing. Don't get me wrong, it's okay, but I've come to expect more melodic songs from him. Sounds like something thrown together at the last minute. Elliot seems to have gotten into the "one good/one bad" syndrome with his releases. To me, this one's a pa Submitted by RAKAR (Meriden, Ct, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

| | Rick Braun Yours Truly CD (2005)
Metro Blue
$14.45 Personnel: Rick Braun (trumpet, flugelhorn); Jeff Golub, Todd Sharp, Ross Bolton, John Pondell (guitar); Steve Kujala (flute); Mitchel Forman (keyboards); David Dyson, Stan Sargeant (bass instrument); Lenny Castro (percussion); Bud Harner. With Yours Truly Rick Braun broadens his audience appeal with smooth "jazzpects" of such pop and R&B covers as "Shining Star," "Holdin' Back the Years," "Love's Theme," "All Around the World," and "Daughters," among others. His muted trumpeting on Earth, Wind & Fire's mega-hit "Shining Star" opens the program and sets the cool, laid-back tone of the set. This cool, laid-back feeling has put Braun in the ring with the best of the world's greatest trumpeters. On "Holdin' Back the Years," his modern traditional approach gives listeners a sense ...
| | Miles Davis Quintet/Sextet CD (1955)
Metro Blue
$9.19 Recorded in the summer of 1955, this session was a half-year after the famed meeting of Davis & Jackson with Thelonious Monk on Christmas Eve 1954. The special chemistry of Miles & Milt is further enhanced on the 2 numbers written by Jackie McLean where the composer's alto saxophone makes the group a sextet. Ray Bryant, in his introduction to a wider jazz audience, is also represented by one tune. The second number is Thad Jones. OJC/Fantasy Records.
Personnel: Miles Davis (trumpet); Milt Jackson (vibraphone); Jackie McLean (alto saxophone); Ray Bryant (piano); Percy Heath (bass); Art Taylor (drums). Recorded at the Van Gelder Studio, Hackensack, New Jersey on August 5, 1955. Originally released on Prestige (7034). Includes liner notes by Ira Gitler and Martin Williams. Digitally remastered by Joe Tarantino (1982, Fantasy Studios, Berkeley, California). Personnel: Miles Davis (trumpet); Milt Jackson (vibraphone); Jackie McLean (alto saxophone); Ray Bryant (piano); Art Taylor (drums). Liner Note Authors: Ira Gitler; Martin Williams ; William Martin. Recording information: Hackensack, NJ (08/05/1955). Most of Miles Davis' Prestige recordings (all of which are currently available in the Original Jazz Classics series) have also been reissued by the audiophile CD label DCC Jazz. This is one of the trumpeter's lesser-known sets, an outing with friends: the up-and-coming pianist Ray Bryant, bassist Percy Heath, drummer Art Taylor, vibraphonist Milt Jackson and (on two of the four songs) altoist Jackie McLean. The brevity of the program (only a touch over 30 minutes) keeps this enjoyable outing from being too essential. [Originally released in 1955, Miles Davis and Milt Jackson Quintet/Sextet was reissued on CD in 2005.] ~ Scott Yanow One of the most obscure of his Prestige recordings, this CD only contains a half-hour of music but the quality is fairly high. Davis is heard outside of his regular group, playing with vibraphonist Milt Jackson, pianist Ray Bryant (who was left out of the personnel listing), bassist Percy Heath, drummer Art Taylor and, on two of the four numbers, ...
