Young, Fly & Flashy Vol. 1 album for sale Product Description
Young, Fly & Flashy Vol. 1 album for sale by Jermaine Dupri was released Jul 19, 2005 on the Virgin label. As part of a company-wide attempt to re-launch the Virgin Records imprint, which had lost the hip cachet it had enjoyed in the '70s and '80s, the label hired rapper/mogul Jermaine Dupri away from his own So So Def imprint to finally give Virgin a definable identity as a hip-hop label. The 2005 compilation JERMAINE DUPRI PRESENTS: YOUNG, FLY AND FLASHY VOLUME 1 is Dupri's mission statement, featuring established artists from the So So Def roster like Da Brat and Dupri himself, and a mix of new signings like Young Capone, whose first single "I'm Hot" starts the record with a Dirty South grind, and Pastor Troy. Young, Fly & Flashy Vol. 1 CD music contains a single disc with 11 songs. ...See Full Description

RedCloud Is This Thing On? CD (2001)
Young, Fly & Flashy Vol. 1 CD music Red Cloud is a Christian rapper. This must be mentioned first, not because of the clutch of proselytizing numbers found on this set, but for the far more subtle impact religion seems to have had on both this album and its artist. Drawn to hip-hop from childhood, the former gang-banger was born again, and invariably decided to evangelize through rap. Red Cloud was already juggling dual ethnic identities -- Native American and Mexican, with the Anglo world he resided in -- but Christianity seems to have widened his perspective, opening the door to other cultures and musical styles. Thus Is This Thing On? is a wild ride, with the album's sermonizing leavened by plenty of humor. "When Kenpo Strikes" is a brilliant case in point, re-imagining Carl Douglas' paean to "King Fu Fighting" flicks as a real-world, life in a day in the ghetto travail. The title track is just as clever, wherein our hip-hop hero wins over the redneck crowd in a cowboy bar with his C&W-flavored rap. Funniest of all is "The Pigeon John Song," a wicked spoof of Eminem's "Stan," themed around a put-upon Pigeon, the stalking wannabe Red Cloud, and album producer sirROC playing his own alter ego, Syntax label head Tim Trudeau. There are musical jokes as well, and dancehall fans will particularly appreciate "Musical Aggression," which lampoons the early ragga age sound right down to the simplistic Casio hook, while overhead Red Cloud and Christafari pepper the disc with machine gun toasts in '90s style, misappropriating the dancehall vibes for their own cultural message. On the powerful "Koyote Gospel," Red Cloud, assisted by Elijah One, delves deep into Native history, before eloquently describing how it colored his own conversion. The wittily titled "Last of the Mex-Hee-Cans" vividly describes the apocalypse, "Final Daez" looks at the damned, while the gloomy rock of "Otherside of the Pillow" offers a bit of hope before the final judgment. Sackcloth Fashion joins the rapper on the heavy hitting day in the life "Cali Blacktop," one of the numerous combo numbers within, which reaches a crescendo with the congregation-filled "Ridiculous Junk." Musically adventurous with its influences proudly unveiled, and lyrically involving, this is a thoroughly entertaining set. And even if Red Cloud is sometimes a bit heavy-handed with his preaching, there's enough creative inspiration here to overcome it. Still room to grow, but an inspired debut. ~ Jo-Ann Greene

Bridget St. John BBC Radio 1968-1976 CDs (2010)
Young, Fly & Flashy Vol. 1 songs Fans of singer, songwriter, and Brit-folk chanteuse Bridget St. John will no doubt be delighted by this double-disc, 41-cut selection of her BBC recordings with John Peel and other DJs from the late '60s through the mid-'70s. Peel was hosting Top Gear at this time, and took over the network's Night Ride program from producer John Muir in 1968. St. John appeared on Night Ride first and that initial off-air rehearsal performance is here, near the end of disc two at her insistence, though its audio quality is not as high as most on this handsome package. The songs she chose for this performance are quite telling: "To Be Without a Hitch," "Ask Me No Questions," "Rochefort," and "Lizard Long Tongue Boy," to mention a few. This set is not arranged chronologically, which may piss off a few hardcore collectors and bibliophiles, but that's what remote controls and multi-disc changers are for. It is arranged aesthetically -- the material on disc one is nearly flawlessly reproduced, while disc two has some rougher live spots (that do not take away from the performances). The package, with copious liner notes and an interview with St. John, has been wonderfully compiled and sequenced by Hux with the full cooperation of the artist and was beautifully remastered by Ron Geesin, who appears as a sideman on many of these sessions, as do Mike Oldfield, Bernie Marsden, and David Bedford.
St. John was one of the first artists signed to Peel's Dandelion Records imprint, and some of the tunes she recorded on her five albums were previewed either in these BBC sessions for Night Ride, Top Gear, or the terrific Radio 1 in Concert series.St. John's performances of her own songs are complemented richly by covers of Buffy Sainte-Marie's "Lazarus," Joni Mitchell's "Night in the City," and John Martyn's "The River." Kevin Ayers duets with St. John on three tunes from a Radio 1 in Concert performance in 1971: "Jolie Madame," "The Spider and the Fly," and the co-written "Oyster and the Flying Fish." A collection like this is pretty much for fans only; part of that is the appeal of her voice, which is limited in range in the same way Nick Drake's was. But there was a reason she was a favorite of Peel's: she was a talented -- if shy songwriter -- who delivered her material with an unintended aura of mystery, ambiguity, and authority that is uncharacteristic for the era, though it has been oft-imitated since. There are other good compilations available for novices culled from her five albums, but for those dedicated fans, this is the holy grail. ~ Thom Jurek
Liner Note Authors: Ron Geesin; Nigel Cross.

Sally Barris Little Voice CD (2003)
Young, Fly & Flashy Vol. 1 CD music About Sally Barris
Nashville-based artist and Wrensong Publishing writer, Sally Barris, has managed to be successful in the mainstream world of country music without giving up her folk & Celtic roots. Her unique style, influenced by artists such as: Dolores Kane, Tony Rice, Dougie Maclean, Triona Ni Dhomhnaill & Richard Thompson, is what makes her stand out in a city known for "cookie cutter" talent. Whether in her own hands or those of a well-established artist, such as, Lee Ann Womack, or a newcomer like American Idol finalist, Kellie Pickler, Sally's music is unmistakably recognizable. Some catalog highlights include: "Reluctant Daughter" (Martina McBride), "Some Things I Know" (Lee Ann Womack), "I'm On My Way" (Kellie Pickler), "The Innocent Years" (Kathy Mattea) and "Honesuckle Sweet" (Jessi Alexander) which appeared in the Miramax film An Unfinished Life. The Minnesota native is currently in the studio working on her 3rd album, a collection she's referring to as "songs from the Celtic woman". "My first love is folk music, especially folk songs from the U.K.", she says. "After touring solo for years in England, I felt it was high time to start being who I really am - a folk singer!" Look for Restless Soul available Nov. 2007.
Also available: Little Voice (2004) and Reluctant Daughter (1999).
