| | Erin McKeown We Will Become Like Birds CD Erin McKeown Discography of CDs
For her fourth album, 2005's WE WILL BECOME LIKE BIRDS, singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Erin McKeown hones her pop-rock sound. Whereas her past records veered from jazz to folk to country, BIRDS finds McKeown crafting songs that subtly mix these genres but fall squarely into the melodic rock style of artists like Aimee Mann. McKeown's high, clear, girl-next-door voice is in fine form, bold enough to carry the majestic, opening "Aspera," but nuanced enough for the gentle, acoustic number "Float." McKeown is backed by a top-notch band here that includes renowned session drummer Matt Chamberlain (who has played with Tori Amos) and bassist Sebastian Steinberg (formerly of Soul Coughing). She's also joined by Argentine vocalist Juana Molina (on "The Golden Dream," a gauzy, Wurlitzer-driven number) and the husky-voiced Peter Mulvey (on the spare "Delicate December"). One of McKeown's most confident and cohesive albums, WE WILL BECOME LIKE BIRDS showcases the talents of an artist hitting her stride.

We Will Become Like Birds album
$13.95 The consistent strength of Amy Rigby's albums sometimes makes them just a bit difficult to write about -- each of her albums is loaded with witty and telling songs about the occasional pleasures and frequent pitfalls of life as a single woman past 30 (or, these days, past 40), and her slightly rickety but powerful voice and smart, tuneful melodies make the perfect vehicle for her material. Rigby's fourth album, Till the Wheels Fall Off, fits right in alongside her previous three sets, so what is there to say about this disc that hasn't been said about the others? Well, just as important as the consistency of Rigby's music is the fact she knows how to find any number of variations on her basic themes, and like the best singer/songwriters, she knows that each person ...
| | Erin McKeown Grand CD (2003)
We Will Become Like Birds CD music
$9.75 Erin McKeown should have called this disc "Don't Fence Me In." The least she could have done was to record the song, anyway. Instead, McKeown tries her hand at just about every genre you might want to hear from her. The only common Grand threads to be found here are her voice and writing. On first glance she's your standard folk-pop torch-bearer with clever lyrical and melodic turns such as ...

We Will Become Like Birds songs
$13.55 DEATH CULT ARMAGEDDON was briefly reissued with a limited edition enhanced bonus disc featuring video footage and five bonus tracks.
Purists won't call it black metal, but if one has to choose a sub-genre it'll do. The only other thing you can accurately call it is extreme metal. With DEATH CULT ARMAGEDDON, the Norway based Dimmu Borgir has synthesized the last 20 years of heavy music into one very coherent and terrifying album. Along with Emperor and Cradle of Filth, they have risen to the top of their own dark niche.
Like breaking into a haunted carnival at midnight, DCA assaults you with fear and surprise at every turn. Sound effects and atonal guitar harmonies in "Allegiance" set an evil mood; this is going to be fun, but scary fun. "Progenies of the Great Apocalypse" is the first glimpse of the live orchestra used to flesh out parts handled previously by synthesizers; ...
