Seven years after MALPRACTICE, Reggie Noble returns in a fury with RED GONE WILD. Funkdoc's sixth album ranks among his best work thanks to hot production from Pete Rock, Timbaland, Eminem, Rockwilder, Scott Storch, and Erick Sermon, an eclectic group of guest MCs (including Saukrates, Runt Dog, Ready Roc, Icadon, GovMattic, Hurricane G, Snoop, Nate Dogg, Method Man, Keith Murray, Erick Sermon, and Biz Markie), Red's own clever wordplay, and the usual mix of hilarious skits which keep the record moving nicely. RED GONE WILD is everything its title promises with 23 banging tracks of blunt-fueled mayhem.

8ball & MJG (or Eightball & MJG, as they used to call themselves) have been the kings of Memphis rap for quite some time now, even going so far as to refer to themselves as "living legends." That's not exactly an overstatement. They've inspired countless Southern rappers and helped to foster a strong hip-hop community in their home city, and now, signed to Bad Boy Records, they're able to reach an even wider audience. Their second album on Diddy's label, Ridin High, is a super-produced tribute to the things the duo love best: drugs, money, and women (there's even a song titled "Alcohol Pussy Weed"). Title and all, Nas's eighth solo album clearly intends to spark controversy. But what gives Nasir Jones the right to declare that HIP HOP IS DEAD? For one Nas's 5-mic debut album ILLMATIC represents the best of a by-gone era. Since then he's tried to find his place in the ever-evolving genre, flirting with the mainstream to mixed results, all the while mired in beef with former allies and childhood friends as well industry rivals. The fact that HIP-HOP IS DEAD is the product of his teaming with one of those former(?) rivals, Jay-Z, shows that business trumps beef--as Nas emphasizes on track one, "Money Over Bullshit."
