Our Mutual Friend Movie Review Average Rating: (5 out of 5 stars) QUINTESSENTIAL DICKENS! WONDERFUL CHARACTORS, SUPERB CAST - THIS FILM TAKES YOU TO CLASS EXTREMES IN 1860'S LONDON (AND THE DVD EXTRA EXPLAINS THOSE PUZZLING DUST MOUNDS, RIVERMEN, "ARTICULATORS"...) A FILM I'VE IMMERSED MYSELF IN MANY TIMES, ALWAYS DISCOVERING SOME NEW CONNECTION. DON'T MISS BRADLEY HEADSTONE'S WORLDS CREEPIEST MARRAIGE PROPOSAL - OR THE LITTLE GENTLEMAN IN THE FINAL SCENE WHO SO ELOQUENTLY DISSES "SOCIETY"!! THIS ANGLOPHILE'S ALL-TIME FAVORITE. Wonderfully Surprised!! I friend had me over to see this movie. Because of its length we needed to break into two sittings, one on Monday and the next on Saturday. I was in suspense the whole time! David Morrissey played the school teacher brilliantly! I kept having to tell myself, He's just acting, he's just acting! Steven Mackintosh and Anna Friel did a wonderful job portraying their characters also. I just couldn't say enough! Submitted by Francine (Upper Peninsula, MI, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Better made even better. If you loved the VHS version, you will be absolutely delighted with the added bits in the DVD. It is like a first time view! Submitted by Anastacia (Spokane, WA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Draws you into the story. Very rewatchable. This miniseries is a very good adaptation. There was a good combo of humor, mystery and drama. If you like Masterpiece Theater productions and books by Charles Dickens, you won't be disappointed by the way the novel was translated to the screen. Keeley Hawes, Paul McGann, Anna Friel, and Stephen MacKintosh portrayed their characters well. The supporting cast were very believable in their roles.

$10.29 With the release of Robert Altman's M*A*S*H in 1970, a new form of comedy was born, one that would help to forever change the face of cinema. Altman's audacious film reflected the American counterculture's growing distrust of religion and government in the late 1960s and early 1970s, resulting in one of the biggest box office smashes of its time. Introducing the techniques he would employ throughout his storied career--overlapping dialogue, a constantly moving camera with a heavy amount of zooming, and a bold combination of frank subject matter with cynical humor--Altman immediately vaulted himself to Hollywood's upper ranks. Based on the novel by Richard Hooker, M*A*S*H follows a group of Mobile Army Surgical Hospital officers as they ...

$13.59 TORN CURTAIN was Alfred Hitchcock's 50th film and signals a return to the espionage-romance theme the director showcased in such films as SECRET AGENT and THE MAN WHO KNEW TOO MUCH. Hitchcock created a distinct look for the film, subduing lighting and gauzing the lens to give a more natural, less studio-produced feel. Notably, it was the strength of studio influence that contributed another change in the look of the film relative to most Hitchcock pictures, casting leads that departed from traditional Hitchcock types. Paul Newman and Julie Andrews, both at the heights ...
