This dualdisc includes video footage of Thomas performing 4 songs live plus an interview, as well as 14 audio tracks, including brand new versions of several songs.
Personnel: B.J. Thomas (vocals); John McDuffie (acoustic & electric guitars, steel guitar, electric sitar, keyboards, bass, programming); Enrico Gerretti (keyboards, programming); Lynn Keller (bass); Lynn Coulter (drums); Bambi Jones, Brandy Jones, Michael Mishaw (background vocals). Recorded at The Bakery, Hollywood, California. Includes liner notes by Dave Thompson. All tracks have been digitally remastered. This is a DualDisc, which contains a CD on one side of the disc and a DVD on the other. With the glut of B.J. Thomas greatest-hits packages available, it's difficult to know what contains the actual hits and what are second-rate re-recordings. Unfortunately, Greatest and Latest falls into the second category. While this compilation mixes tunes from his late-'60s prime and early-'80s comeback, they are not the arrangements that have been etched into the memories of anyone who ever heard them. "Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head" without the Burt Bacharach arrangement sounds flat, even though Thomas' voice is in fine shape. If you want the late-'60s original hits from the Scepter label, pick up Greatest Hits on the always trustworthy Rhino label. For the '80s material check out Best of B.J. Thomas: New Looks and Old Fashioned Love on Razor & Tie. ~ Al Campbell

Hooked On A Feeling: The Best Of
$40.75 Personnel includes: Dave Davies (vocals, arranger, guitar, keyboards); Kristian Hoffman (piano, keyboards, background vocals); Russell T. Davies (synthesizer, programming); David Nolte (bass); Jim Laspesa (drums, background vocals); Brian Myers (percussion). Producers include: Dave Davies, Kate Bourbonn, Russell T. Davies. Includes 1 bonus track. Bug finds Dave Davies looking back, returning to a comfortable, familiar sound. No, not the garage rock of early Kinks records, nor the precious English pop that marked his initial foray into solo recordings in the mid-'60s. No, he's returning to the album-oriented hard rock that marked the Kinks' Low Budget and his solo albums from the early '80s -- which is only appropriate, since it is his first album of new material in nearly 20 years. Even so, it's startling that apart from the clean contemporary production, the album feels like it could have been released the same year as Chosen People, but once that shock wears off, it's easy to appreciate Bug as a real solid collection of arena-rattlers, earnest mid-tempo rockers, and ballads. There is the occasional change-up -- the surf guitars on "The Lie!," for instance -- but this is pretty much a straight-ahead rock record, fueled by good guitar playing and very sincere, soul-baring lyrics. This is probably the purest album Dave Davies has yet released, the one closest to capturing his personality -- there are no commercial considerations to the production or the material, the performances are ...
| | Summer Records Anthology 1974-1988 CD (2007)
Hooked On A Feeling: The Best Of
$11.99 Toronto had a sizeable West Indies population by the late 1960s, including many ex-pat Jamaican musicians, one of whom was Jerry Brown, who left Kingston for Canada in 1968. A car body repairman by trade, Brown was soon established enough to turn his attention to his first love, making music, and he built a recording studio in the basement ...
