| | Amrit Sond Circular Motion CD Amrit Sond Discography of CDs
Amrit Sond's debut album is 11 tracks' worth of reflective solo acoustic guitar music that recalls the early days of the Windham Hill label. Before "new age" was a musical genre, the Windham Hill artists were a group of musical oddballs making records that fit in no ready-made slot, and Circular Motion has that same sense of being lost in time and space: this is a record that could have been recorded at any point in the last three decades. Neither as rootsy as John Fahey or as quirkily experimental as the Durutti Column, but containing elements of both, these songs range from surprisingly driving (the compelling opener, "Vertical Time," which maintains a remarkable sense of forward velocity) to more typically serene (the lyrical, spacy "Reaching Out [For Gravity]"), maintaining enough variety and diversity within the necessarily limited musical palette that the album rarely becomes merely a pleasant background wash. This is a surprising and entertaining debut. ~ Stewart Mason
This is the first CD release from the Grammy Award-winning guitarist Amrit Sond, based in the U.K. "Circular Motion" is a solo guitar masterpiece which has received rave reviews in Europe and the U.K.

Circular Motion album
$14.09 Her otherworldly voice is trance-like in such songs as the tranquil "Shepherd Moons," "Angeles," "Evacuee," and "Marble Halls." Accessibly lilting, awash in synth strings, "Caribbean Blue" is this album's answer to "Orinoco Flow," ...

| | Wilco Sky Blue Sky CD (2007) Enhanced CD
Circular Motion music CDs
$10.79 Of course this is still Jeff Tweedy's band, which means SKY BLUE SKY never strays too far from what has emerged as a basic Wilco template. The constantly shifting Chicago ensemble (in its umpteenth incarnation by the album's release) still displays an instrumental precision and studio professionalism while working within a newfangled roots template, and Tweedy himself remains as searching as always, both lyrically and musically. With nary a rave-up in sight, the album could be criticized for being overly serene, but in a career marked by nearly ...
| | David Sylvian Approaching Silence CD (1999)
Circular Motion songs
$6.99 Originally conceived as music for multi-media installations, as an audio-only experience Sylvian's album provides us with a soporific dose of ambient sounds. The title track is made up of cyclical motifs of bells and sustained chords reverberating like ripples on a pond, punctuated by a rich gong-like guitar chord. This is suffused with hushed animal calls, fragments of fuzzy talk-radio programmes and the garbled falsetto of contributor Robert Fripp.
"Epiphany" takes sampled material of passing trains and hushed church bells and a plaintive human wailing phrase to make an all-too-brief interlude. Continuing in much the same atmospheric vein "The Beekeeper's Apprentice" is a summer doze in a wooded glade. Imagine chandeliers tinkling in the warm breeze and half-hear the faint ...

Erik Berglund is a unique recording artist who, like the troubadours of yore, combines his extraordinary musical talents with the Spirit and power of God's healing gifts. $24.95 | | George Cables Morning Song CD (2008)
Circular Motion CD music
$13.89 Morning Song is a compelling portrait of pianist George Cables. Best known as a sideman for his work with everyone from Art Pepper and Woody Shaw to Dexter Gordon and Bobby Hutcherson, Cables has nonetheless amassed a sizable catalog as a leader. This date, issued on High Note in 2008, was recorded in 1980 at the famed Keystone Korner in San Francisco. Cables is featured in two different contexts here, and judging by the sound of the recording, it comes from two different gigs. Cables plays solo on six of the ten cuts here. They range from standards like "Who Can I Turn To," "Polka Dots and Moonbeams," "As Time Goes By," and "I Remember Clifford," to a pair of tunes by Bobby Hutcherson: "Stroll" and "Little B's Poem." These performances are simply stellar, and in places breathtaking. Cables is one of the great rhythmic pianists out there who seamlessly weaves the long jazz piano tradition of players like Art Tatum and Teddy Wilson into the work of more percussive and strident improvisers like Jaki Byard and even Randy Weston. The Hutcherson titles are especially rewarding, as his own rhythmic attack and deep blues feeling are articulated through his command of the post-bop canon. On the four remaining ...
