The 10 pieces on Brian Eno's 1992 ambient collection THE SHUTOV ASSEMBLY were recorded between 1985 and 1990. In the intervening two years, however, artists such as the Orb and the KLF had placed Eno's concepts of ambient music into the context of dance music, creating ambient house, one of the '90s most important club trends. As a result, critical and public opinion of this album at the time was mixed-to-negative, with many complaints that the pieces broke no new ground. A single listen belies this statement, as THE SHUTOV ASSEMBLY is unique in Eno's ambient work. Several of the randomly titled pieces have a dark, vaguely disturbing cast far removed from the usual placidity of Eno's ambient work, while others bring the world music aspects of some of Eno's other projects to the ambient sphere. THE SHUTOV ASSEMBLY is an intriguing and satisfying work.
Recorded between 1985 and 1990.

Alternative Press (12/92, p.58) - "...conveys the serenity and mystery of a still lake perfectly reflecting the roof of a cavern..." The Wire (p.55) - "Whirled music, triggered machinery, bells and organ-like drones add to the narrative..." Audio Magazine (1/93, p.149) - "...the producer of U2 and ambient music is clearly drawing the navigational charts for music of the near future..." Shutov Assembly album
$6.39 This audio document of The Corrs' Dublin homecoming concert has pretty much everything fans of Irish pop could wish for, including an appearance from Bono in his earthly incarnation, fresh from an audience with President George W. Bush. It's to the band's credit that the charismatic singer fails to steal the show, despite creditable efforts via an anthemized version ...
| | Drive-By Truckers Southern Rock Opera CDs (2001) Digipak
Shutov Assembly CD music
$11.99 A sprawling two-disc set, the Drive-By Truckers' SOUTHERN ROCK OPERA is a cracked masterpiece that's enjoyable on several different levels. Hipsters might enjoy the giggly premise of a two-disc set devoted to a slightly altered retelling of the rise and fall of 1970s Southern rock icons ...
| | Mark Lanegan Bubblegum CD (2004)
Shutov Assembly music CDs
$12.49 In between the release of FIELD SONGS and its follow-up, BUBBLEGUM, former Screaming Trees singer Mark Lanegan sang for hard-rock heroes both old (a reunited MC5) and new (Queens of the Stone Age), gaining both fans and famous friends in the process. Thus, all eyes were on Lanegan for BUBBLEGUM, which features guest shots by everyone from PJ Harvey and Queens leader Josh Homme to Izzy Stradlin and Duff McKagan of Guns N' Roses. Fortunately, all this attention doesn't seem to have fazed the sandpaper-voiced singer; despite the guest list, BUBBLEGUM is as dirty, gritty, and raw as anything in his catalog.
While much of Lanegan's previous solo work is a mix of languid folk-rock, gutter blues, and the kind of grunge-mutated 1960s-psych influences that powered the Screaming Trees, BUBBLEGUM is lean, ...
| | Antony I Am A Bird Now CD (2005)
Shutov Assembly songs
$12.49 Though he probably achieved his greatest mainstream recognition backing up Lou Reed on tour, idiosyncratic songbird Antony is a fully established artiste in his own right. Backed by the Johnsons, as on I AM A BIRD NOW, he crafts delicate ballads that skirt the lines between cabaret, artsong, and pop, with the kind of voice that Stephin Merritt would probably kill for. Antony's unique pipes bring to mind an androgynous Bryan Ferry ...
| | Brian Eno Another Day On Earth CD (2005)
Shutov Assembly album
$15.25 At the time of ANOTHER DAY ON EARTH's release in 2005, it had been 28 years since ambient-music godfather Brian Eno had released an album of vocal-based songs (not counting a 1990 duo record with John Cale). Eno's '70s "pop" albums were part of a different age and represented a different Eno, one who'd laid the groundwork for glam with Roxy Music and was, for all his eccentricities, very much a rock artist. Almost three decades down the line, though, with a career's worth of ...

As founder and driving force behind Swaray Productions along with his life partner, Maudeline Swaray, Gebah has formed a musical niche, an original sound- that fuses traditional Liberian music with elements of soukous, jazz, reggae, and calypso music. These musical elements color the 2002 release, Mass Exodus. TAXI, the music industry's leading A&R company has reviewed Mass Exodus and given it a score of 9 out of 10. This reflects Gebah's dedication to his production quality. The man behind the music of the famous Zack and Gebah music phenomenon of Liberia continues to surge forward. We Want PeaceThe 1996 release of We Want Peace tested the waters for what Mass Exodus would come to be.
