a watchable movie.

This movie was awesome because it shows how situations that seem hopeless can have a positive ending. Another positive things was that the ending of the movie gave rise to a possible sequel as the books did.

||Wonderful performances from good source material|
Homecoming review You have to expect some compression in turning these fine books into a film, so the Cousin Eunice episodes from the book are severely cut, and the feel for the water of Chesapeake Bay and its effect on Dicey Tillerman is not conveyed, but the performances are very good, especially Kim Peterson as Dicey. Homecoming DVD for sale All of the kids are good, and Anne Bancroft manages to get a lot of the angst from the book’s character into her performance. I would say that this is a modern version of Anne of Green Gables in many ways, without the turn-of-the-century saccharin that was part and parcel of Lucy M Montgomery’s era. Cynthia Voigt has written many superb books, in which adults are usually obstacles to the lifeforce of children, and this is a theme that has no problem resonating with young readers. As it happens, I read all of these as a grizzled 20s-something librarian, and as is frequent with books aimed at young adults, a lot of unnecessary fat never appears in these books, and the same is true of this nice little movie. I would like to see the continuation and prequels of this story, since “The Runner,” “ Dicey’s Song” and especially “Solitary Blue” were equally powerful. This is great for family viewing if the adults can take the hits, there are few likable adults in any of these stories.

||An overall great movie|
Well, I read the book (which was EXCELLENT!) and then I bought the movie via Video Universe. It was really good, and even the author reccommends it. It followed the book great!
