Photographer: Andrew McPherson . It's clear from the cover photo on 2005's Fireflies that Faith Hill is beating a retreat from her half-baked, half-successful 2002 pop diva makeover, Cry. Not that the album was bad, or even an outright flop -- it just failed to do what it was intended to do, which was to make Faith Hill a true rival to Shania Twain, where her pop success was as great as her country following. Big and polished Cry may have been, but it just wasn't memorable or hooky enough to be great pop and unlike Shania's very clever everywoman pose, Hill's pop move was too detached, too snooty for her country audience. Since she's no fool, Faith Hill has quickly returned to the country-pop and big ballads that brought her stardom on 1999's Breathe, but that doesn't mean she's not playing it smart and savvy. She's recorded several songs by John Rich -- best known as half of Big & Rich, but also a professional songwriter who is pretty close to being ubiquitous in 2005, in the wake of his duo's success. Here, he proves to be a sharp professional by bringing his craftsmanlike musical skills but not his oversized humor to the table with such songs as the laid-back, breezy "Sunshine and Summertime" and the appealingly slick power ballad "Like We Never Loved at All," delivered with harmonies by Hill's husband, Tim McGraw. Of course, this being a 21st century pop album, he's not the only collaborator or songwriter on board. Longtime Hill producer Byron Gallimore once again produces the great majority of the album, and he's as instrumental in steering Hill back tow Faith Hill Fireflies Songs Fireflies Music Review Average Rating: (3.6 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews Great This Cd is everything I hoped it would be and Faith Hill was great in it as she is with all her Cd. SAME DIRECTION Faith Hills new album, is good but not great, it has some stunning track on it but sad to say its all ballards or ballardy type songs with the exception of dearly beloved and first single mississippi girl which are my favorites, however this album lacks the variaty of the albums cry and breathe. Plus whoever wrote the bonus track Paris wants shooting the song just dosen't go anywhere. All said though I will always buy Faith's albums, just hope the next one has more variaty on it. HUH???? I mean, come on Faith... what is THIS??? This CD hasn't given me any emotion so far. What a disappointment. Just a few good tracks on it. TOO MUCH COUNTRY. Country can be boring at times, since most of country songs sound kinda alike. I don't think Faith is trying to keep up with Shania - it seems like 'cause they've both sung country. And once again, country music kills music - to all the country musicians out there, try to update your music a bit and find something new!! Fire-flies but not far ! From what I can see so far she has 4 hits out of 14 tracks, not a good ratio. As for her "Hits" coming out this summer, it is a "Poor Money-Making Drag Her Feet" sampling. Nothing like what her husband has done by putting out a Greatest Hits-Vol. I & II, which shows more respect towards the fans waiting for exactly that after she has put out 6 albums. My list is as follows: Take Me As I Am, Wild One, Piece Of My Heart, Let's Go To Vegas, It Matters To Me, You Can't Lose Me, I Can't Do That Anymore, Bed Of Roses, Breathe, Let's Make Love, The Way You Love Me, If My Heart Had Wings, This Kiss, Let Me-Let Go, The Secret Of Life, Just To Hear You Say-You Love Me, There You'll Be, Somewhere Down The Road, Over The Rainbow, Mississippi Girl, Sunshine & Summertime, Like We Never Loved At All, The Lucky One, Cry, When The Lights Go Down. 25 Hits and counting, why not put out "The Hits" package with live music later and give the fans what they want NOW!
