Standard Screen; Soundtrack English An all-star television adaptation of the Jules Verne novel, set in the late 19th Century. An Englishman named Phileas Fogg makes a bet that, using all the modern forms of transportation, he can travel around the world in 80 days. He and his sidekick begin their voyage in a hot-air balloon, and make their way through Europe and on to India, where they save a widow from committing suttee (killing herself in her husband's funeral pyre). Then they travel by train in America and by ship across the Pacific. Phileas and his companion finally complete the loop, but he believes they have arrived just a little too late to win their bet. Shot on location in England; Macao; Hong Kong; Bangkok, Thailand; San Francisco, California; and Yugoslavia.

$10.35 This fantasy adventure is based on the 1870 novel by Jules Verne. A small, motley group of soldiers and civilians flee the 1865 siege of Richmond via a hot air balloon, and end up on an isolated island crawling with over-sized crabs, birds, and bees. Even more astonishing, they discover three other humans inhabiting the island: two shipwrecked women and the illustrious, long-lost Captain Nemo. $15.25 Based on the Hasbro toy line that initially captivated kids in the 1980s, director Michael Bay's TRANSFORMERS finds two warring bands of shape-shifting alien robots renewing their intergalactic conflict on Earth. While the Decepticons, followers of the malevolent Megatron (voiced by Hugo Weaving), strive to take over the planet, the Autobots, led by the valiant Optimus Prime (voiced by Peter Cullen), are intent on protecting humanity. When young Sam Witwicky (Shia LaBeouf) discovers that his new car is really the Autobot Bumblebee (voiced by Mark Ryan), it sets the stage for a massive giant-robot showdown.
A shining example of the Hollywood summer blockbuster at its best, TRANSFORMERS combines stunning CGI effects and thrilling action sequences with drama, humor, and a touch of romance. Featuring a large cast that includes Josh Duhamel, Tyrese Gibson, Jon Voight, John Turturro, Anthony Anderson, and Rachael Taylor, the film is anchored by LaBeouf, who always displays an engaging Everyman charm, whether he's running from colossal robots, interacting with his well-meaning parents (hilariously played by Kevin ...

$10.39 From Olivier Assayas, the director of IRMA VEP and L'EAU FROIDE, comes LES DESTINÉES, a tender and sophisticated period piece starring Emmanuelle Béart and Charles Berling. Based on the novel by Jacques Chardonne, this epic film takes place in France from 1900 to the '30s. Focusing on the life of Jean Barnery (Berling), the film is divided into three 60-minute chapters. The first chapter is dedicated to Jean's first wife Nathalie (an icy Isabelle Huppert) and the scandal that causes him to abandon his career as a pastor in the insular village of Barbizac. The next chapter centers on his second wife and true love, Pauline (Béart), for whom he gives up his family fortune so that they may live a simple romantic life in a chalet nestled in the Swiss Alps. The third chapter, which explores with philosophical curiosity the effects of war and economy on community and industry, focuses firmly on Jean's primary love, porcelain. With beautiful period costumes, touching dialogue, and a convincing display of the passage of time, ...

Around The World In 80 Days film
$8.79 Set against the futuristic landscape of totalitarian Britain, V For Vendetta tells the story of a mild-mannered young woman named Evey (Natalie Portman) who is rescued from a life-and-death situation by a masked man (Hugo Weaving) known only as "V." Incomparably charismatic and ferociously skilled in the art of combat and deception, V ignites a revolution when he urges his fellow citizens to rise up against tyranny and oppression. As Evey uncovers the truth about V's mysterious background, she also discovers the truth about herself - and emerges as his unlikely ally in the culmination of his plan to bring freedom and justice back to a society fraught with cruelty
V FOR VENDETTA: From DC comics and the Wachowski Brothers (THE MATRIX) comes this tale of revolution in an England of the future, one gone fearful and fascist; anyone different, from homosexuals to free thinking artists, is "black bagged" and subjected to torture and inhumane medical experiments. Hugo Weaving stars as V, the mysterious knife-carrying masked avenger who has lightning reflexes, lots of explosives, and intentions to blow up Parliament. He's also on a vendetta against the evil powermongers who made him the lonely monster he is. Natalie Portman is the innocent waif who saves him and winds up hiding out in his nifty secret lair, which is filled with forbidden books, art, and a jukebox that plays Cat Power and Julie London's "Cry Me a River." Meanwhile, there's a hangdog police inspector (Stephen Rea) ...
