Truckin' Up to Buffalo: July 4, 1989 album for sale Product Description

Truckin' Up to Buffalo: July 4, 1989 songs Among discerning Deadheads, 1989 is not generally considered one of the band's best years; in the wake of their massive success with 1987's IN THE DARK, torpor had begun to set in, and the band's legendary live sparks seemed more elusive. Nevertheless, the Dead were famed for the anything-can-happen ethos of their live shows, and it just so happened that on Independence Day of '89 they were undeniably on fire. Truckin' Up to Buffalo: July 4, 1989 CD music is a 2-disc set with 21 songs.   ...See Full Description

Grateful Dead's best show in years...
This is one of the Dead's best shows since 1978 (and I've heard hundreds). Apart from 1995 gigs (Jerry's swansongs) this is my favourite performance from the 89-95 years.

Disappointment
This was my first purchase of a Grateful Dead album. I probably should have gotten the greatest hits, but I was looking for an album that had "Playing in the Band" on it and this seemed like the one to get.

Truckin' Up to Buffalo: July 4, 1989 album for sale Today the most recognition the Animals get is "House of the Rising Sun" being played on oldies radio, but in the mid-1960s they were a powerful part of the British Invasion, often reckoned on a par with the Beatles, the Stones, and the Who. Like those bands, the Animals had strong roots in blues and R&B, but, in their original incarnation, they stayed closer to those roots than their peers did. This definitive compilation, masterfully assembled by the ABKCO think tank of Teri Landi and Jody Klein, shows the tough, uncompromising use to which the Animals put their American influences. John Lee Hooker's "Boom Boom" is recast as a raw garage rocker glazed with Alan Price's sinister organ riffs, and the aforementioned "House of the Rising Sun" is transformed from a traditional folk lament to an urgent, ominous piece of churning tumult. Of course, the group skillfully expanded those roots (with the help of some great writers), and turned out some classic working-class-rebel anthems ("We Gotta Get Out of This Place," "It's My Life"). By '67, the original lineup disbanded, and Eric Burdon led a new batch of Animals into a psychedelic West Coast sound ("San Franciscan Nights," "Monterey"). The Animals may not be given pride of place in the rock history books, but RETROSPECTIVE shows that they fully deserve it. Audio Remixers: Eddie Kramer; Gary Kellgren; Vic Briggs. Liner Note Author: Jim Bessman. Truckin' Up to Buffalo: July 4, 1989 buy CD music Recorded live at the Atlanta Internation Pop Festival, Atlanta, Georgia, July 3 & 4, 1970. Includes liner notes by Kirk West. The 1970 Atlanta International Pop Festival was one of the first big rock festivals of the decade, beating out the Isle of Wight by over a month. It was also home turf for the Allman Brothers, who were invited to play the opening and closing sets of the three-day event. In retrospect, it's interesting to note how--despite their penchant for extended jams--the Allmans were somewhat at odds with the flower-child ethic of the day; after the MC delivers a classic hippie/stoner intro, the tough, raw opening strains of "Statesboro Blues" come off as delightfully incongruous. Nevertheless, the band's improvisational blues-rock majesty made them a crowd-pleaser. It's easy to see why; the level of energy (and musicianship) here equals, if not surpasses their legendary live Fillmore East recordings from the following year, which showcase much of the same material. Dickey Betts and Duane Allman's guitars play ably against Greg Allman's thick organ voicings and the percolating polyrhythms of drummers Butch Trucks and J. Johnny Johnson. Between-song announcements of a rain delay and the opening of the gates to non-paying fans reinforce the Woodstock-era vibe, making this two-disc set effective as both a musical and historical document. Personnel: Gregg Allman (vocals, keyboards); Berry Oakley (vocals, bass guitar); Duane Allman (guitar, slide guitar); Dickey Betts, Johnny Winter (guitar); Thom Doucette (harmonica); Butch Trucks (drums, timpani). Audio Mixer: Thom Cadley. Recording information: Atlanta International Pop Festival (07/03/1970-07/05/1970). Photographers: Carter Tomassi; Twiggs Lyndon; Joe Sia. Truckin' Up to Buffalo: July 4, 1989 songs The soundtrack to Martin Scorcese's two-part PBS documentary on Bob Dylan, NO DIRECTION HOME is a two-disc affair consisting almost entirely of previously unreleased material. One couldn't start any further towards the beginning of Dylan's career than this collection's first track, "When I Got Troubles," a modest, folkish tune caught on tape by a high school friend and presumed to be the first original Dylan song ever recorded. From there, we follow the breakneck trajectory of Dylan's early career, as he develops at an unprecedented rate, from young Woody Guthrie acolyte (a rare version of Guthrie's signature tune "This Land is Your Land") to his own protest songs (Town Hall, NYC performances of "Masters of War" and "Blowin' in the Wind"). It's Disc Two where things really kick into overdrive; having made the leap from folk balladry to surreal word paintings, we hear Dylan developing musically by leaping into electric rock & roll. It's an undeniable thrill to hear the sacred texts of HIGHWAY 61 REVISITED and BLONDE ON BLONDE anew via the alternate takes included here, with modified lyrics and rhythmic inflections. NO DIRECTION HOME manages to provide hardcore Dylan fans with fresh meat while simultaneously chronicling the high points and songwriting milestones of this visionary artist's first several years of work. Liner Note Authors: Al Kooper; Eddie Gorodetsky; Andrew Loog Oldham. Truckin' Up to Buffalo: July 4, 1989 CD music A three-disc collection of Yes concert performances dating from the early 1970s to the late '80s, THE WORD IS LIVE presents the pioneering British prog-rock group in its various incarnations. The first disc features live tracks from '70 and '71, when organist Tony Kaye's distinctive Hammond lines figured strongly into the band's performances, which here include a jam-heavy take on "America" that precedes its studio version. The second and third discs are filled with concert appearances that have Kaye's replacements, either keyboardist Rick Wakeman or Patrick Moraz, surging through classics such as "Sweet Dreams" and "Roundabout." The set goes on to include Kaye's return to the fold, most notably on the high-energy medley of "Make It Easy" and "Owner of a Lonely Heart." While hardcore, bootleg-seeking Yes fans have undoubtedly heard some of these recordings before, THE WORD IS LIVE performs a great service by compiling these era-spanning tracks, making the set essential for any enthusiast. This three-disc boxed set spotlights some of Yes' most memorable shows, capturing their stylistic evolutions and highlighting several of their legendary lineups. Spanning 1970-1988, the collection was co-produced by Yes and features many tracks from guitarist Steve Howe's personal archives. All but two tracks are previously unreleased. Packaging includes new artwork by Roger Dean, a massive 56-page book with scores of rare photos, commentary by prog-rock legend Greg Lake, essays by Yes experts Mike Tiano, Bill Martin, and Brian Ives, as well as fan reminiscences and testimonials by such fellow artists as John Frusciante, Geddy Lee, and others. Truckin' Up to Buffalo: July 4, 1989 songs After playing the 1973 Rainbow Concerts that were arranged by good friend Pete Townshend, Eric Clapton returned to Florida's Criteria Recording Studio to cut 461 OCEAN BOULEVARD. Because of a stint of personal turmoil, Clapton had not played guitar for two years preceeding the Rainbow Concerts, but with the help of a core group of musicians including George Terry, former Derek & the Dominos bassist Carl Radle, Jamie Oldaker, and Yvonne Elliman, Slowhand put together an album that many consider to be his best. Focusing more on his singing than his guitar pyrotechnics of the past, the new, improved Clapton used a laid-back, J.J. Cale-type vocal style to great effect on a mellow version of "Willie And The Hand Jive" and Elmore James's "I Can't Hold Out." Far from being a kinder, gentler guitar hero, Clapton also showed considerable spark on a slide-drenched "Motherless Children" and the driving "Mainline Florida," which closes out the album. Of course, his cover of Bob Marley's "I Shot The Sheriff" was the musical statement that took him to the top of the charts and let the general public know he was back. 461 OCEAN BOULEVARD is still one of the highest points of Clapton's solo career. Includes a bonus disc Live At Hammersmith Odeon, London. Additional Tracks; Deluxe Edition Personnel: Eric Clapton (vocals, guitar, dobro); Yvonne Elliman (vocals, guitar); George Terry (guitar, background vocals); Albhy Galuten (piano, electric piano, clavichord, synthesizer); Dick Sims (organ); Carl Radle (bass guitar); Jamie Oldaker (drums, percussion); Al Jackson, Jr. , Jim Fox (drums); Tom Bernfield (background vocals).
