Rise Against's The Unraveling seems to be a bit of a change for Fat Wreck Chords. Oh, it's still punk (surprisingly, it was recorded by Mass Giorgini), it's just a lot more aggressive and not nearly as cheesy as many of the label's acts. This album is not poppy, and there's no juvenile humor; Rise Against is a pretty tough band and The Unraveling shows that aspect. The vocals have a good deal of melody and range, yet can break into screaming at any moment, as many of the tracks show. Songs like "Everchanging" show the possibilities that the Chicago quartet is capable of. The lyrics are mature and thoughtful, dealing with friendships and relationships, religion and memories. Similar comparisons could be made to Whippersnapper and Grey Area, yet there are certain ways The Unraveling stands out on its own, primarily in its use of melody in the vocals. While Whippersnapper's vocals are more metal and Grey Area's punk, Rise Against is melodic hardcore. Showing that they're not too far from their roots in 88 Fingers Louie, the punk energy is pure and unadulterated here. If there were ever an album to help bring back the finger pointing and circle pits, The Unraveling might be a good bet. ~ Kurt Morris

Rise Against Unraveling Songs Unraveling Music Review Average Rating: (4.8 out of 5 stars) awesome For a band's first album, this was great. It was one of the best first albums I have and heard. Submitted by rockinbryan90 (Illinois, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 1 found this helpful.
give your head a shake best damn rise against cd!!!
i'm sure you've heard the new stuff, and its real good, BUT this...THIS is a GREAT CD
I look forward to seeing them live this January Submitted by oj (saskatoon) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 1 found this helpful.
Rise Against never disappoints This album is amazing, start to finish. The first song, "Alive and Well," starts with a sound clip from Jack Black, which I thoroughly found funny. But this album ventures far from comedy to delve into the deeper subjects of lost love, friendship, and faith in our country. Rise Against delivers this in a way that will make you want to listen to The Unraveling over and over again.
It's a great album. If you're looking for a break from the pop media that has taken over the radio stations, buy this album.
You will not regret it. Submitted by heart.42 (A Little Town in Arizona, AZ, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Unraveling album
$10.65 The Washington, D.C. straightedge hardcore punk scene began with Minor Threat. The band recorded two LPs on its own Dischord label, plus an EP and the miscellaneous singles that are collected on this CD. Many of the early recordings on this collection seethe with teen-age angst and indignation. The songs rage against bullies, religious hypocrisy, and the herd mentality.
Other songs, taken from later in Minor Threat's career, feature tighter and more sophisticated playing. Metallic flourishes tinge the guitar work, vocal harmonies abound, and song dynamics vary more than on the earlier record. On certain songs, Ian MacKaye's lyrics address the complexities of friendship, loyalty, and self-expression. ...
| | Rise Against Revolutions Per Minute CD (2003)
Unraveling CD music
$9.09 Contains an untitled hidden track following "Amber Changing".
With clenched fists in the air, boots to the floor, and anger swelling in their chests, the members of Rise Against return with their second album, Revolutions Per Minute. It's a two-pronged attack. From the north blows the fury of their hearts, swept up as they are in their passion for a girl who is "Like the Angel," but love that strong almost inevitably eventually engenders the opposite emotions -- and so it is with Rise. And even as they beg on "Amber Changing" to pretend that tonight will never end, the relationship sours, and even their "Last Chance Blueprint fails to change the emotional landscape, leaving nothing but hatred it its wake, reaching a paroxysm of viciousness on "To the Core," a ferocious, fever-pitched number written and delivered with pure vitriol. If that's the bitter northern wind, bringing with it blizzards of wintry emotions warmed only by the heat of anger boiling in their hearts, the gale from the south comes as no relief. This, to continue the metaphor, is the wind of political change that descended with hurricane force on 9/11 and ...

| | Sonny Criss Up, Up And Away CD (1967) (Import) Japan; Limited Edition
Unraveling CD music
$24.95 Digitally remastered by Phil De Lancie (1998, Fantasy Studios, Berkeley, California).
Altoist Sonny Criss' Prestige recordings of the late 1960s generally included a current pop tune or two along with some stronger jazz pieces. This 1998 CD reissue is of particular interest because the intense altoist is teamed with guitarist Tal Farlow (who had ...
| | Doobie Brothers Captain & Me CD (1973) (Import) England; Limited Edition; Reissue; Digipak; Mini LP Sleeve; Argentina
Unraveling music CDs
$11.79 CAPTAIN AND ME found the Doobie Brothers boasting three strong vocalists, two expert guitarists, and a brace of rhythmic drummers, refining a sound that crossed AM pop-rock, soul-tinged R&B, country-folk, jazzy gospel, and strong musicianship. The result burst the band into national prominence. Traces of Moby Grape, whom the group adored, can be heard in their vibrant harmonies and flowing hooklines, but THE CAPTAIN AND ME showed an act of singular purpose.
The effervescent urgency propelling the percolating groover "Long Train Running" and the leaner rock of "China Grove" into the US singles charts is apparent on every selection. In addition to the band's gorgeous layered harmonies and twin guitar arpeggios, THE CAPTAIN AND ME features the band's strongest and most consistent set of songs. Patrick Simmons's mellow, country-rock numbers, such as "South City Midnight Lady" and "Clear As the Driven Snow," abut Tom Johnson's rockers, like the majestic title track. ...
| | Chris Whitley Living With The Law CD (1991)
Unraveling songs
$5.95 Chris Whitley's 1991 debut, Living with the Law, was recorded in Daniel Lanois' New Orleans mansion and was produced by Malcolm Burn. The sublimely dark, creepy, and possessed collection sounds completely out of place for the era of slick pop/rock like Milli Vanilli. The tortured album is rich with old-style sounds, from slide guitars to pedal steel. (Lanois contributes some on the album.) Living with the Law has a full, ambient feel that transports the listener into the recording. Whitley humbly ...
| | Mellow Drum Addict & Shortop Are Fire Escape Artists CD (2008)
Unraveling album
$10.25 Imagine a collaboration between Pink Floyd, Aesop Rock, DJ Premier and DJ Q-bert with a little splash of Deepspace 5. This is just a glimpse of what you will find in Fire Escape Artists. End Of Earth Records is proud to release this eccentric album. Mellow Drum Addict & Shortop have definitely created a masterpiece. There are so many facets to this project that have been executed with excellence. The selection of producers is top-notch, the rhyming and guest spots are more than solid, Shortop seriously brings it with the turntablism, and MDA laces most tracks with a unique, psychedelic-type singing style. You will not be ...
