Nekromantix Brought Back To Life Again CD

Brought Back to Life offers more psychobilly madness from Denmark's Nekromantix. The thrumming pulse of ringleader Kim Nekroman's coffin-shaped bass sits at the center of these songs, surrounded by approximations of rockabilly by guitarist Ian Dawn and drummer Grim Tim. It's approximations because Nekromantix are more interested in establishing an overall feel than nodding to traditionalism. Like the Misfits, who were more concerned with their showmanship and spooky overtones than adhering to any punk rock code, Nekromantix are happily enveloped in a world of zombies and evil things who prey in the night. If they go on a date, it's only to the monster movies. In fact love in Nekromantix world is kind of creepy, as "Nekrofelia" proves. An off-kilter version of the 1950s teen drama song (think "Last Kiss" by J. Frank Wilson), it deals with letters from beyond the grave and streaking graveyards out of love. None of this will be new to any Nekromantix or psychobilly fan. But the trio gets points for sticking so faithfully to a rather limited sound. ~ Johnny Loftus
