This special edition of the film starring John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd features memorable performances by Ray Charles, James Brown, Aretha Franklin, Cab Calloway, and more. Included is the original theatrical release and the director's cut version. Extras include making of stories, intro to the film by Aykroyd, all-access pass to a Blues Brothers' concert at the House of Blues in San Diego, highlights of many spinoffs inspired by the film, and production notes. In this classic comedy-musical, Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi star as Jake and Elwood Blues, white rhythm-and-blues musicians who are on a mission from God: to raise $5,000 for the orphanage where they grew up before it is closed for failure to pay back taxes. In order to succeed, they must resurrect their band, the Blues Brothers, and stay one step ahead of their enemies: Jake's ex-fiancée, the police, a bunch of Illinois Nazis, and a country-western band, not to mention the Chicago police. This much-loved comedy features tremendous song-and-dance numbers by such famous musicians as James Brown, Aretha Franklin, and Ray Charles. In roles made famous by their famed SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE skit, Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi star as Ellwood and Jake Blues in this extremely entertaining and successful comedy. Upon Jake's release from prison, the brothers are reunited and visit the orphanage they grew up in--only to discover that it is in danger of being shut down by the county for failure to pay taxes. With a little help from James Brown as a revival preacher, the Blues Brothers are divinely inspired to raise the $5,000 that the orphanage needs to stay open. On their mission from God, they must reunite their old band and raise the money by playing various gigs around town. The wild adventures of the band include dodging evil neo-Nazis, playing in a rowdy redneck bar, and narrowly escaping the crazed Carrie Fisher as Jake's ex-fiancée, who is out to see him dead. Finally, the boys have to get to a gig at the Palace Hotel Ballroom and deliver the $5,000 to the county assessor's office--leading to one of the most wild and hysterical car-chase smash-ups in film history. John Landis has spiced this wonderful romp with fabulous rhythm-and-blues numbers from such greats as Aretha Franklin, James Brown, Cab Calloway, and Ray Charles. Theatrical Release: June 1, 1980.

Blues Brothers DVD
$9.69 Set in 1962; Produced and released in 1973.
AMERICAN GRAFFITI presents a powerful collage of youth on the brink of maturity just before the assassination of J.F.K.. Based on George Lucas's own teenage hot-rodding days in Modesto, California, this brilliant, bittersweet comedy inspired numerous other productions, including the long-running TV series HAPPY DAYS. Lucas's second feature film (following THX 1138), AMERICAN GRAFFITI contains an early screen appearance by Harrison Ford, who would figure heavily in the director's next movie, the sci-fi epic STAR WARS. The film follows one night in the lives of several recently graduated high school students. The genial Steve (Ron Howard) prepares to leave for college the next day, and Laurie (Cindy Williams), his girlfriend, is upset by his impending departure. Laurie's brother, Curt (Richard Dreyfuss), the class intellectual, is also slated for college, but he has serious doubts about his future. Also included here are the hopeless nerd (Charles Martin Smith) and the eternally cool drag racer, John (Paul LeMat), who feels pressure to live up to his reputation. A nostalgic feeling is evoked in seeing the teenagers cruising in their hot rods, eating at Mel's Diner, and listening ...

$15.65 John Sturges's adaptation of Ernest Hemingway's short novel, often regarded as an allegory of the latter part of the writer's career, stars Spencer Tracy as Santiago, an aged Cuban fisherman who has been nearly three months without a significant haul. Heaped with ridicule by other fisherman, he once again pushes off in his decrepit ketch, hoping that this trip will finally bring success. After a time at sea he hooks a powerful marlin that drags the man's tiny craft for a couple of days. Santiago engages in an epic battle with the monster, his hands nearly cut to ribbons as he's pushed to the limit of his dwindling strength. At rest during lulls in this war, he has dreams of his stronger and younger self, only to awaken to reality. At length, through guile, experience, and endurance, he lands the hefty marlin with a harpoon and secures him to the side of his boat. But a new danger arises, in the form of a school of hungry sharks that attacks the ...

$6.95 Woody Allen's funny, frantic THE CURSE OF THE JADE SCORPION is part screwball romantic comedy, part 1940s noir detective story, and part ingenious heist film. Allen stars as C.W. Briggs, a set-in-his-ways old-time insurance investigator who refuses to get along with the bright new efficiency expert, Betty Ann Fitzgerald (Helen Hunt), brought in to streamline his office's operations. Their back-and-forth bickering is reminiscent of the interplay between Cary Grant and Rosalind Russell in HIS GIRL FRIDAY. When a magician, played by the always excellent David Ogden Stiers, hypnotizes them as part of his stage act, Briggs unknowingly becomes a jewel thief while falling in and out of love with the exceedingly more confused Fitz, who is carrying on a secret affair with the married head of the company (Dan Aykroyd). Mayhem ensues as a pair of brother detectives zero in on the criminal, a sexy debutante comes on to Briggs, and Briggs and Fitz start suspecting each other. Production designer Santo Loquasto, who has been working with Allen for more than twenty years, once again has created ...

$10.29 Alan Gould (David Arnott) is an anthropologist specializing in a Brazilian tribe called the Shitabi, in this film that poses the question, "What would you do if you were the last man on earth?" After every creature perishes (except flying insects and birds), Alan videos himself enacting various Shitabi rituals and social practices based on the Shitabi belief that human suffering is created by feelings of jealousy and competition. One day, the last woman on earth, Sarah, (Jeri Ryan, "Seven of Nine" on Star Trek Voyager), happens upon him as he smothers himself in mud and performs a crass ritual designed to alleviate guilt. They shack up and attempt domestic bliss when dimpled, crunchy Raphael (Dan Montgomery) shows up armed with a bandana. He's been camping and doesn't realize that the whole ...

Blues Brothers review
$14.39 Robert Altman directs this film starring Woody Harrelson, Tommy Lee Jones, Garrison Keilor, Kevin Kline, Lindsay Lohan, Virginia Madsen, John C. Reilly, Maya Rudolph, Meryl Streep, and Lily Tomlin. Extras include deleted scenes, behind-the-scenes documentary, and commentary with Altman and Kline.
Cleverly adapted from the long-running radio series, A PRAIRIE HOME COMPANION is a comedy-musical tour de force written by PRAIRIE host Garrison Keillor and directed by Oscar-winning auteur Robert Altman. Keillor stars as a fictional version of himself, leading his guests through what might be the end of an era: corporate bigwigs have bought the Fitzgerald Theater, where the radio show is aired live, so the cast and crew are dedicated to putting on one great final show before their longtime home meets the wrecking ball. Altman alternates between backstage intrigue and the classic, old-time music being played in front of a dedicated audience, mixing fact with fiction in humorous and poignant ways. Among the performers are sister act the Johnson Girls--Yolanda (Meryl Streep), Rhonda (Altman regular Lily Tomlin), and Yolanda's daughter, Lola (Lindsay Lohan)--aged folkster Chuck Akers (L.Q. Jones), who is having a torrid sexual relationship with the lunch lady (Marylouise Burke); the raunchy duo of singing cowpokes, Dusty (Woody Harrelson) and Lefty (John C. Reilly); and real PRAIRIE contributors Jearlyn Steele, Robin and Linda Williams, and the Guys All-Star Shoe Band, led by Richard Dworsky. As the show goes on, bumbling private detective and security chief Guy Noir (Kevin Kline) pratfalls his way through an investigation of a mysterious woman in white (Virginia Madsden) while awaiting the arrival of the Axeman (Tommy Lee Jones), the corporate honcho ready to ...
