Matthew McConaughey stars as an underwater explorer in search of treasure among the remains of a lost battleship. Along with wisecracking sidekick Steve Zahn, he meets the beautiful Penelope Cruz. Outsmarting warlords on threatening terrain, the three find themselves on the adventure of their lives. Extras include commentaries, 3 featurettes, and deleted scenes. Dirk (Matthew McConaughey) and Al (Steve Zahn) have been friends since kindergarten, having also gone through college and the Navy together. The two now work for a former admiral traveling around the world and salvaging treasures from the sea with the National Underwater and Marine Agency (NUMA). In his spare time, Dirk is obsessed with the 150-year-old mystery of the Texas, an Ironclad battleship that reportedly disappeared from Richmond, Virginia during a Civil War battle and turned up in Africa. When a Confederate coin--allegedly one of only five minted--surfaces in Mali, Dirk and Al plan to travel there from Lagos, Nigeria on the admiral's yacht to investigate. Meanwhile, in Lagos, Dirk meets Eva (Penelope Cruz), a doctor for the World Health Organization (WHO) who believes that there is a plague building in Mali. Since the WHO is unable to find another way into the war-torn country, Dirk and Al give Eva and her colleague a lift up the river. Once in Mali, Dirk, Al, and Eva quickly find themselves embroiled in trouble as she pursues the source of the disease. Meanwhile, Dirk and Al search for the Texas.
Based on a novel by Clive Cussler, SAHARA is a rollicking thrill ride through exotic locales, including everything from high-speed boat chases to helicopter pursuits to jeeps racing through the desert to camel rides. A warlord and a greedy French businessman prove to be formidable villains for the trio. McConaughey fits the bill as gentleman and adventurer Dirk, while Zahn holds his own as likeable sidekick Al. Cruz is feisty as independent Eva. Director Breck Eisner's theatrical feature film debut also features William H. Macy as the admiral. Director Breck Eisner is the son of former Disney CEO Michael Eisner. While SAHARA is his first big budget theatrical feature, he also directed the straight-to-video film THOUGHTCRIMES, and has done work for television including commercials, an episode of the mini-series TAKEN, and the made-for-tv movie THE INVISIBLE MAN. great flick! Has action, humor, and some romance. Not allot of unnecessary sex and foul language. I found it to be really entertaining and wish they made more movies without all the ludicrous sex and foul language !!

This movie is so good. Actually I liked this movie a lot and I've only seen it twice. I thought the cast was perfect with their performances. Especially Matthew M and Steve Zahn with their buddy good friends humor. Also Penelope Cruz gave a good performance. This movie has so much action in it, it will keep you on the edge of your seat throughout the whole movie. It'd be cool if they made a sequel to this. Like the Indiana Jones trilogy. A must buy to add to your dvd collection.

This is really a good action movie with everything in the trama and with amazing actors.I waiting for the secuence and I recomend that It is merely to watch it.

The Movie missed so much of the writing in the book I would not bother with this movie had I known. Some "OK" action scenes, though if you did not read the book you might not understand some scenes in general. Missing a lot of background.

 Dang,this movie sucks
I was really disappointed with this movie.The action is so fake and the story is so full of holes.It's like National Treasure and a really bad James Bond movie mixed together.Matthew McConnaughey is such a good actor and he should never be in movies this bad.

First out of the gate with a new band after the English Beat's acrimonious fracture in June 1983, General Public was the first post-punk supergroup, gathering the Beat's Dave Wakeling and Ranking Roger, the Specials' Horace Panter, and other veterans of the U.K. ska revival. (Mick Jones, freshly booted from the Clash, was originally announced as General Public's lead guitarist; although he left the group very early on to start up Big Audio Dynamite and doesn't appear in the album photos, his guitar does appear on nearly all of the album's ten tracks.)
