The documentary MAESTRO details the history of underground dance music, and its soundtrack expertly reflects the subject matter. After a spoken-word introduction, the album kicks in with Peter Brown's late-1970s club hit "Burning Love Breakdown," a surprisingly slow-paced, shuffling tune that laid the groundwork for many post-disco dance-floor singles. Before long, this in-the-mix compilation moves on to the slinky funk of Booker T. & the MG's track "Melting Pot" followed by the trippy repetition of Mr. Fingers's "Can You Feel It." Aaron Carl's atmospheric "Oasis" and Astrid Suryanto's sensual "Way" were recorded specifically for the film, bridging the gap between late-'70s/early-'80s club music and the dance tunes of the early 2000s. For club-culture aficionados, this is an excellent set of dance tracks that also sheds light on an oft-neglected piece of music history.

$16.45 I was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia on a cold Foggy morning on November 27,1981 at the old Grace Maternity Hospital. From the day I left the hospital until today music has always been a part of car travel for me. Whether it was Joan Baez, Nana Mouskouri, Rita MacNeil or Bruce Springstein we sang to them all. I’ve travelled from one end of Canada to another, across the USA, UK and Europe, music was always a part of those trips. Through this I have developed a love of all kinds of music. When I attended our “Milne” family reunions in Eastern Ontario, my mom could always find me next to my cousin Peter Milne (who sang with the Royal Canadian Opera Company) and my other older cousins who had a love for music. When I attended school in Valois, Quebec I was in the school choir, plays and played the clarinet in the band. At the age of 16 I decided I’d like to take voice lessons. I attended the Canadian Conservatory of Music for two years. There I performed in various recitals. Then came a chance to study with Jeri Brown the internationally renown Jazz singer. I was given the chance to perform in several of her choirs, as well as being an Assistant Stage Manager on her play “ Four Walls of Blue”. To this day Jeri remains my mentor. I was with the Maritime Conservatory for one year, where again I entered the Kiwanis Music Festival and placed in two categories, one being the Folk song class, I sang Loch Lomond. While at the Maritime Conservatory I took clarinet lessons with Ruth Blackie ...
