| | Chamillionaire Sound Of Revenge CD (2005) Parental Advisory
Uncovered/Covered
$13.15 With THE SOUND OF REVENGE, Chamillionaire's 2005 Universal debut, the Houston-based rapper makes the most of his major-label deal, which includes his own Chamillitary imprint. On SOR, Paul Wall's former collaborator amps up that duo's signature chopped-and-screwed mixtape sound with heavy-duty arrangements that expertly showcase Chamillionaire's deep, husky voice. The introductory title track ...
| | Mary J Blige Breakthrough CD (2005)
Uncovered/Covered
$10.49 The album's lead-off single, "Be Without You," a bittersweet slow jam, is representative of the album's themes, which focus on feelings of strength and weakness in love. But whether waxing romantic ("Can't Get Enough") or detailing the travails of the heart ("Baggage"), Blige lays down elastic R&B vocal lines that are second to none. Even a seemingly unlikely duet with Bono and U2 on "One" comes across beautifully, adding a new dimension to that familiar tune.
After her somewhat lukewarm 2003 release LOVE & LIFE, Mary J. Blige returns to her rightful place as the Queen of Hip-Hop Soul with 2005's THE BREAKTHROUGH. Blige enlisted a host of guest producers to contribute tracks to THE BREAKTHROUGH, and the ...
| | Mac Dre Presents The Rompalation, Vol. 1 CD (1998)
Uncovered/Covered
$13.29 Due to various legal troubles, Mac Dre didn't have the opportuntity to deliver a full-fledged follow-up to his second album, Young Black Brotha, until 1998 -- five years after YBB was released. The resulting record, Stupid Doo Doo Dumb, doesn't quite live up to its predecessor, mainly because it's missing the production of Khayree. His replacements, K Lou, Funk Daddy and Johnny Z, are all fine, but lack his distinctive spark. Nevertheless, they provide Mac Dre with a serviceable backdrop for his coolly funky West Coast hardcore hip-hop. Dre doesn't stray ...

| | DJ Shitbird Welcome To The Party CD (2004)
Uncovered/Covered
$7.95 With members of Coachwhips, Numbers, Lil Pocket Knife, and Crack: W.A.R. making up the informal and side-project-ish bands DJ Shitbird and Revenge SF, the quirky San Francisco "don't call us electroclash" underground looks like it could go down in history as an Elephant 6-style collective. Filled with in-jokes, pranks, and plenty of minimal noise, the split EP Welcome to the Party is incestuous evidence. More obsessed with partying than the B-52's and 2 Live Crew combined, DJ Shitbird's half is filled with naďve beats, nerd-punk, and Lil Pocket Knife's vocalist Kristy Geschwandtner masquerading as an eight-year old. "SF Rules!" roll-calls all the underground scenesters by name, "Elephant Dance" is about just what it says, and their other three songs just go on about partying. It's cute if you can stand the giggles, and necessary if you're name-checked, but insufferable if you're not in the mood to party. Revenge SF are almost as sonically limited as Shitbird, ...

| | Vision No Regrets CD (2008)
Uncovered/Covered
$6.69 If AC/DC and Joan Jett were to have a child, and allow Van Halen, Motley Crue and Metallica to babsysit frequently, the result would be \"Vision\". Vision’s sound is influenced by classic and 80’s rock/blues rock, with a touch of modern rock mixed in. Having a female front the bad gives a nice twist to the traditional feel. The band prides themselves on thoughtful, melodic lyrics layered over hard driving rhythms. Vision was formed by David Vignola (guitar) and Juliette \"Jules\" Vignola (bass, vocals) in 2006. While they looked for band members they began writing the early songs which would eventually go on the first CD. After several lineup and name changes, the current lineup including Joe Johnston (keys, guitar), Diane Calano (drums) and Michelle Privée (lead vocals) was completed around February 2008. Once the band was assembled, they started recording immediately, completing their first CD \"No Regrets\" in May 2008. Vision has since hit the road playing local gigs in the Connecticut area and building a strong fan base. While Vision does have a unique underlying feel to their music, every song is completely different:• \"Rock Starr\" is about quitting your day job to become a rock star• \"Line in the Sand\" is about standing up for what you believe in• \"Party Song\" is a good time rock song• \"Into the Void\" ...
