(25 Customer Reviews)
On the title track, Babyface lays out the value of experience in love and lovers' games, offering an implied rebuke to the arrogance of mid-2000s juvenile crooners. While Babyface's confidence is unquestionable, he's one of the kings of expressing strength through vulnerability, as the heartfelt "Sorry for the Stupid Things" shows. Babyface can craft a simple song with considerable depth like few others, and GROWN & SEXY is the sort of rewarding album that's only possible from someone who's been in the game for a long time.
Seventeen years prior to 2005's GROWN & SEXY, Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds's voice first appeared on the Deele's exquisitely sweet Top Ten pop and R&B hit "Two Occasions." Even then Babyface was by any measure fully grown, immeasurably sexy, and slowly taking control of the R&B world as half of songwriting and producing team LaFace (with future Arista head L.A. Reid). That GROWN & SEXY, the singer-songwriter's fifth album and first following a four-year absence, breaks little new ground and has a breathy familiarity is no shortcoming. Most of the vocal groups and sultry singers of the 1990s and beyond were informed by Babyface, and his stature shows on this solid record.
Personnel: Babyface (vocals, various instruments, programming); Pagani, The Underdogs (various instruments, programming); Eric D. Jackson (guitar); Greg Phillinganes (piano); Clarence Allen, Cassandra O'Neal (keyboards); Eric Dawkins, Kevon Edmonds (background vocals).

| | Eric Benet Hurricane CD (2005)
Grown & Sexy songs
$9.75 In the six years that passed after the release of 1999's A DAY IN THE LIFE, Eric Benet's very public marriage and painful breakup with Halle Berry ended up overshadowing the Milwaukee native's skills as a talented, soulful singer-songwriter. Not surprisingly, HURRICANE uses Benet's recent turmoil to fuel songs touching on the crooner's dark and troubled times. But rather than go down the more accusatory path of musical retribution (as the late Marvin Gaye did on 1978's HERE MY DEAR), Benet looks inward throughout these 14 cuts.
The tone is immediately set with the stripped-down, ...

$13.45 For those who like a little mysticism and classical influence in their smooth jazz, Japanese-born composer and keyboardist Keiko Matsui has long been the ticket. She was Billboard's number one Independent Contemporary Jazz Artist in 1997 and is the top New Adult Contemporary female instrumentalist of her time. In the early days (she's up to 14 albums now), Matsui did it with a mix of thunderous film score-like sweeps, elegant and jazzy piano command, and a guest sax ...

Grown & Sexy songs
$16.45 Music FactsFiona wrote a lot of songs on the road between the South West and the Midlands on her way to visit family. As her car radio kept getting stolen she sang to herself to make the journey go quicker. After running out of the songs she knew she began to make up some new ones and at six hours there and back every weekend that's a fair few songs - over 200.She frequently has no room on her phone to send texts as it's full of bits of new songs she's recorded onto it!Fiona recorded Fan Club of One album herself on her computer after teaching herself to play from Beginners Book One. She also did the album artwork and the website and got herself onto iTunes to see if she could do it. From start to finish it took just over a year. The CD Fan Club of One came about after Fionas' mum told her she had to do something with her songs as at that time she was her 'fan club of one'. The songs on it are Fi's slower ones as after teaching herself for a year they were the only ones she could change chords fast enough for....she can play a bit faster now :-) and has just started recording the next cd.Her songs have been described as across between, folk, country and blues.....and she's been described as a 'female Jack Johnson' - but that's by her friend Jo, who is fab and always says nice things. Chris Barnard says she sounds a bit like Lisa Loeb, her mum thinks she sounds like Dusty Springfield (Fi wishes!)Non Music Facts Fiona once announced the trains at Loughborough Train Station while she was waiting for a train. She has been studying martial arts since she was 16 and has lived in a dojo....Fionas' dream job would be a Blue Peter Presenter ………or International Woman of Mystery. She once welded her mums car back together. When she was 16 she had a crush on Marti Pellow from Wet, Wet, Wet (apparently it was his vocal talent not his tight leather trousers…..;-)If she didn't work in IT and had to be an animal Fiona would like to be an Eagle…… or a Koala.... She once got locked inside St Pauls Cathedral in Rome....In the eighties Fiona had a ‘very dodgy’ perm and ‘Bet Lynch' earings....The first time she sang in a band she was really nervous and banged her tambourine so hard it broke, the discs scattered all over the floor and she didn't notice and couldn't understand why everyone ...
