A major label shakeout left Dope facing an uncertain future after 2001's widely overlooked LIFE. Undaunted, the New York City quartet released and toured behind 2003's GROUP THERAPY without support or conventional promotion. 2005 found Dope with a new home on Artemis Records and a venomous new studio album. AMERICAN APATHY draws upon many styles; industrial, glam, metal, and punk are blended together, forming the band's unmistakable sound.
"Revolution" takes aim at the current presidential administration, while elsewhere they channel the spirit of Pretty Boy Floyd's sleaze with Powerman 5000's pulsing grooves. "Always" and "Dream" offer melodic and catchy breathers from the band's pummeling assault. "I Wish I Was the President" is a cleverly twisted anthem of abuse of power, a recurring theme in Dope's view of the establishment. Besides a crop of solid new original material, AMERICAN APATHY features some cover songs. A metallicised take on NWA's "F--- Tha Police" and a rocked-out version of Depeche Mode's "People Are People" make for some familiar, yet fresh ear candy.
Includes bonus CD.

Dope American Apathy Songs American Apathy Music Review Average Rating: (4.4 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews BACK!! Gone are the slow ballads on Group Therapy...so much more aggressive yet a few melodic catchy songs with an edge the past melodic songs lacked-almost an early drowning pool sound on Dream! Im Back is the best song Dope has created!! Dope is back and this CD kicks ass!!! Submitted by Steve (US Army, Iraq) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
badass i really liked all the other Dope albums but i think that american apathy blows them all out of the water. A definate have to buy if you enjoy Dope. Submitted by joshandis (Westminster, CO, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Decent CD This is the first dope cd that really stood out to me from their past cds. Songs like survive, I'm Back, and No Way Out showed the heavier side of dope. Songs like always and dream showed the somewhat softier side of dope. This balance is what really impressed me about this band. The thing that was the downside to this cd is the heavy kind of techno sounds in the background. For example in the song I Wish I Was The President this techno sound completely drowns out some of the instruments. This continues in the whole cd. Even with good music the mixing can downgrade the cd. I have heard no regrets and addiction from their upcoming cd no regrets. Both these songs are heavy and without any bacground techno. I will definitely have their upcoming cd no regrets. Submitted by drumdogcash (new wilmington Pa) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Sweet I´ve heard most of this album from a friend, and it´s super! I havn´t been into nu metal much before, but this is great. The only thing bringing it down to four stars is that I dislike that they use so many effects. Submitted by Erik (Sweden) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Dope=Good I really liked this album because alot of their lyrics are catchy.I bought the special edition one and I cannot tell the differences between the alternate versions of Bitch, Now Is The Time and Motivation. I definitly thought that Group Therapy was good but I think that this album is a big "STEP UP". So for all you Dope Fans out there, this album is worth buying. American Apathy songs
$10.59 Dope's third full-length appears through Recon, an N.Y.C. upstart affiliated with frontman Edsel Dope through management ties. In addition to producing Group Therapy, the dreadlocked kingpin directed and/or conceived of videos for each of the album's 13 songs, including them here as DVD add-ons. The bulk of additional content is a nice touch, and should be appreciated by the group's core fan base. And Group Therapy is much stronger than 2001's flawed Life. Pounding, hard-charging percussion and rumbling, near atonal guitars are garnished with the occasional electronic flourish to form a ...

| | Elvis Costello Extreme Honey: The Very Best Of Warner Brothers Years CD (1997) Import
American Apathy songs
$13.95 This collection looks back on Costello's post-Attractions Warner Bros years. He had matured both musically and personally, and he didn't want to be playing the angry young man into middle age. He sought out different producers, who helped him realize his more ambitious visions, and different musicians, who provided his compositions with new sonic points of reference.
He also began collaborating more, most notably with Paul McCartney. The two wrote a batch of first-class songs together, of which the haunting, minor-key "So Like Candy" is arguably the best. "The Other Side of Summer," among the least-demanding MIGHTY LIKE A ROSE TRACKS, shows that Costello never lost his knack for hooky pop. Costello's elaborately produced tour de force SPIKE yielded a bumper crop of great songs, included the soulful, New Orleans-R&B-tinged "Deep Dark Truthful Mirror." By the mid-'90s, Costello had reunited with the Attractions. From their fruitful ALL THIS USELESS BEAUTY comes the closer "I Want To Vanish," a breathtakingly beautiful, melodic ballad that stands among EC's best.
Out of print in the U.S.! Import pressing of this 1997 compilation from the British singer/songwriter. After a decade with his backing band The Attractions, Costello had moved beyond the Punk and New Wave tags that the critics had labeled him as and settled into a more comfortable and highly respected position as a singer/songwriter. This collection highlights tracks from his Warner Brothers Records period in the late '80s through most of the '90s and contains songs from the albums Spike, Mighty Like a Rose, The Juliet Letters, Brutal Youth and All this Useless Beauty. Highlights include his first ever Top 20 U.S. hit, 'Veronica' (with Paul McCartney on bass and as co-producer), 'Tramp the Dirt Down', 'All This Useless Beauty' and many more. 18 tracks in all. Warner.
Includes liner notes by Elvis Costello.
Personnel: Elvis Costello (vocals, guitar); Richard Page, Steven Soles (vocals); James Burton (guitar, electric guitar); Marc Ribot (guitar, banjo, cornet, French horn); T Bone Burnett (guitar); Dónal Lunny (acoustic guitar, bouzouki); Michael Thomas , Ian Belton ...
| | Badlands: A Tribute To Bruce Springsteen's Nebraska CD (2000)
American Apathy album
$10.35 Nebraska is probably the album that has more critical respect, from both writers and musicians, than any other Bruce Springsteen project. It's likely that no other Springsteen album could have brought together the mainstream and indie acts on this track-by-track re-creation of the record, the cast including Chrissie Hynde (dueting with Adam Seymour), Los Lobos, Ani DiFranco, Son Volt, Ben Harper, Aimee Mann (dueting with Michael Penn), Johnny Cash, and Raul Malo. The challenge faced by all tribute projects? To pay homage to the spirit of the original, yet vary the arrangements and vocal interpretation enough so that the covers are interesting in their own right. This is more successful than most tribute albums in those regards, though like virtually all tribute albums, it's uneven. When the vibe is at its most minimal, the covers can be pretty successful, like Chrissie Hynde's subdued phrasing against spectral backing on the title cut, Crooked Fingers' use of dense circular ambient backup on "Mansion on the Hill," and Ani DiFranco's deployment of the kind of low booming bass heard on the Twin Peaks ...
