On the follow-up to 2003's EVOLVER, Omaha pop-funk-reggae-rockers 311 continue the maturation process begun on that album. The 11 tunes on DON'T TREAD ON ME rarely deviate from 311's established formula. The laidback title track (also the album's first single) is a particular highlight, blending a rock-steady rhythm with one of the band's catchiest choruses. Elsewhere, S.A. Martinez and Erik Hexum maintain their trademark vocal blend; however, given that rap-metal was officially passé by 2005, Martinez only slips into his hip-hop-influenced mode on the jittery "Speak Easy." The rest of the album tends to focus on upbeat rockers like "Thank Your Lucky Stars," "Solar Flare," and the party anthem "Frolic Room." 311 was always the least angsty rap-metal band; now they're more like Sugar Ray's wiseguy older brothers.

First off for everyone who wrote that they are a "TRUE FAN" yet you claim purchasing this cd was a waste of money!, Your not true fans! Anytime you spend money on a cd from a band you claim that your a true fan of, its never a waist of money! I personally love the cd. Ive been a fan, A TRUE FAN!!, of 311 since the first time i heard them in 1992. Although this cd is not one of my favorites, its definitely a cd you can listen to all the way through without getting tired of it. I love their old, raw, funk personally. Although the smooth guitar grooves, and funky ORIGIONAL 311 beats, and of course the lyrics with definitely get you to keep listening. If you are TURE FAN you will appreciate the direction the band was trying to go with this album. Amazing job guys, keep up the good work! And dont worry, US TRUE FANS that were there from day one, will continue to support, and stand by your music. Submitted by secondbase311 (San Antonio TX) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
From A Guitarists point of view This was a breakthrough album from 311 they really focused on going back to their roots and it really shows there musical talent.Mahoneys guitars in this album are phenomenal along with the rest of the music songs like "Speak Easy" "Long For The Flowers" and "Whiskey and Wine" are melodic twisted with them hard rock power chords they have always had in there music. I cant wait to see what the next album is going to be like. Submitted by Tony (Buffalo N.Y.) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
311 at it again Alright, yeah its not like alot of their other albums, but thats what 311 is known for, pushing the boundries and going into new territory, while at the same time keeping that beat so you know its 311 when you hear it. The first time you hear it, it does sound a little slow but after your finished hearing the whole album, you cant help but to put it back in the CD player again, a truly great album from a great band. Great for the old diehard fans as well as the new. Submitted by Robbie (Bel Air, MD) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
dont bother this is the worst thing 311 has ever done, im a huge 311 fan and i wasted 10 dollars on this cd.. its so slow and unimpressive.. really bad Submitted by alex (michigan) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Is this 311 or Bryan Adams? Huge 311 fan here, but I must say, this album is terrible. What has 311 become?
Every song on this album can be played on the radio, which means they have sold out.
I can't listen past the first song anymore. The second song is called Thank Your Lucky Stars - c'mon, that has Bryan Adams written all over it.
I'm glad I got an advanced copy of this CD, so that I didn't have to waste $15 on it.
This album sounds like every other Modern Rock/Alternative album coming out. Where did 311's originality go? Submitted by cromwellct (Cromwell, CT, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Don't Tread On Me album
$10.35 Signing with the Beggars Banquet indie after spending several years hopping from one label to another, Tindersticks returned with their sixth studio album, 2001's CAN OUR LOVE. From the stripped-down arrangements to the slyly comic monochrome cover photo of bandleader Stuart Staples nuzzling a horse, CAN OUR LOVE shares from front to back the country vibe of the Band's first two albums, though mutated through Tindersticks' trademark twists. Dialing back on the Scott Walker-like ...

Don't Tread On Me CD music
$8.15 Not that it's unique, yet even with half the band changed from the last time around, the twin-riff action that kicks off "Evil Eye," and The Action Is Go! as a whole, sounds like nobody else but Fu Manchu, somehow. Punk energy, classic rock drive, psychedelic crunch, and heavy-ass grind all at once -- really, is anything more needed? From there the new lineup proceeds to kick ass and take names in its own way -- music to shake one's very long hair to while cranking it up and driving around. Hill's strength as a vocalist has long been that he doesn't sound like a deep, bellowing yahoo, but that nutty kid down the block who knows how to party anyway. The Action Is Go! lets him demonstrate that in ...

| | 10,000 Maniacs Campfire Songs: The Popular, Obscure & Unknown Recordings CDs (2004)
Don't Tread On Me CD music
$15.39 Recorded between 1982 & 1993. Includes liner notes by Anthony DeCurtis.
Spanning 31 songs and two discs, one covering "The Most Popular Recordings" (aka "The Hits") and one covering "The Obscure & Unknown Recordings" (aka "The B-Sides and Cover Versions"), Rhino/Elektra's 2004 compilation Campfire Songs: The Popular, Obscure & Unknown Recordings of 10,000 Maniacs is as good a career overview as could be assembled. The hits disc may miss a minor charting single like "Few and Far Between," but it has all the songs of note, from the hits to album tracks. Meanwhile, the rarities are devoted pretty much to B-side covers in addition to four previously unreleased demos, the early outtake "Poppy Selling Man," plus their cover of Cat Stevens' "Peace Train," which was removed from latter-day editions of In My Tribe. There's enjoyable stuff on both discs -- the singles "Like the Weather," "What's the Matter Here?," "Trouble Me," "Candy Everybody Wants," and "These Are Days" are very good indeed, laying the groundwork for adult alternative pop/rock, while the early demos on the second disc are livelier than most Maniacs material and the Michael Stipe duet on "To Sir With Love" is a priceless artifact from the height of Clinton optimism (which faded quite quickly). ...
