Standard Screen; Soundtrack English Mushroomhead were rocking the house--and their signature monster-mask look--long before Slipknot had been conceived of, although this Cleveland-based metal outfit is often described as being influenced by their more well-known colleagues. The eight-piece band formed in 1993, and their 1996 debut SUPERBUCK was just the beginning of a steady stream of independent releases of consistent quality. They quickly became one of the Midwest's most popular metal acts, by combining hardcore and metal with an industrial tinge, and opening for acts like Marilyn Manson, GWAR, and the Misfits. This release features a collection of music videos, including "Solitaire/ Unraveling" and "Sun Doesn't Rise," directed by Dean Karr and Vincent Marcone, as well as a number of previously-unreleased videos such as "Before I Die," "Eternal," and "Along the Way," among others. Also included is backstage and travel footage shot during the XX and XIII world tours. Mushroomhead Volume 1 film
$10.19 Principally recorded at The Theater Studio & Mindswerve, New York, New York.
Mindless Self Indulgence's brilliantly named The Frankenstein Girls Will Seem Strangely Sexy collects more of the group's outré, hip-hop-tinged industrial thrash. Singer Urine's bizarre falsetto sounds like a sped-up Jello Biafra, especially on tracks like "Boomin'" and "I Hate Jimmy Page." The album's 30 songs -- which sport titles like "Dicks Are for My Friends," ...
| | Mushroomhead XIII CD (2003) Enhanced CD
Mushroomhead Volume 1 review
$11.99 Don't let the makeup and masks fool you; while Mushroomhead appear on the surface much like a band of comic book villains, it's obvious that this Ohio octet are serious about their brand of bleak metal. Their previous release, XX, made a quick jump from the indie realm to a major label, and they secure that status with XIII. "Sun Doesn't Rise," "Kill Tomorrow," and "Eternal" feature Pantera-inspired, stop-on-a-dime riffing while "Mother Machine Gun" seems to borrow some swagger from the Cult.
The piano-driven "One More Day" bristles with emotional urgency, while "Nowhere to Go" is reminiscent of ANGEL DUST-era ...
