Beginning, appropriately enough, with "1969" from the Stooges' debut album (released that year), A MILLION IN PRIZES delivers 12 Stooges tracks that might quite literally blow listeners' minds if played at high volume. Iggy's first solo outings produced some of the finest music of his career (underpinned by David Bowie's superb production), including the tongue-in-cheek slink of "Nightclubbing" and the ecstatic, celebratory blast of "Lust for Life." Iggy's output in the '80s was spotty, but A MILLION cherry-picks some of the gems, including surprise collaborations with Kate Pierson, Debbie Harry, and Medeski, Martin, and Wood. This superb anth

A MILLION IN PRIZES: THE ANTHOLOGY confirms what many rock fans already know, that singer, songwriter, provocateur, and rock & roll shaman Iggy Pop was a force of nature, who collected the molecular essence of the music and gave it back to the audience in a purer, more powerful form. Suspicions that such claims overstate the case will be put to rest by one listen to A MILLION IN PRIZES, a career-spanning retrospective that encompasses Iggy's work with the Stooges and as a solo artist (up to 2003).

Lame Compilation of THE GREAT ONE You've GOT to be kidding -- an Iggy compilation with only 1 song each from New Values, Kill City, Soldier, and even . . . Funhouse (well OK plus a couple live versions)??
Yet they manage to find room for such utter dreck as CANDY, Cold Metal, and I Need More. An Iggy compilation without Shake Appeal, Consolation Prizes, New Values, Don't Look Down, Knocking Em Down, or Repo Man (I could keep going) is a waste. At least Lust for Life & The Idiot are well represented. Until someone comes up with a reasonably comprehensive and respectable anthology that does the IG justice, everyone should just go out and get his albums -- at least up to SOLDIER, they are ALL great! Superb anthology. Worthy of top 10 status! An absolute must for any fan of rock. I rate this as one of my top 10 cd's of all time. It captures the best of Iggy, truly the best. An underrated artist in music history, this shows he belongs in the same breath as The Doors, Stones, Beatles, and Pink Floyd. His resiliency and power are simply awesome. A heartfelt thanks to CD Universe! China Girl is one of the best rock songs ever! Get it! Submitted by strangeteacher (Stockton, CA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
