In post-war Tannochbrae, the Arden House medical team face disruptive changes in daily operations with the arrival of two partners in rapid succession and the addition of a young housekeeper. As the medical innovations of the twentieth century find their way to the countryside, Dr. Finlay battles distrust, apprehension and ignorance to treat his patients who, unaccustomed to the new medicines and techniques, do not always follow doctor's orders. Even so, when unexpected emergencies threaten, the town comes together to combat them in a heart-warming surge of caring and selfless hard work.
Based on the vivid characters created by A. J. Cronin , this Masterpiece Theatre presentation is an intriguing journey into the world of healing, humanity... and hope.
