Nova Driver's long, four-year hiatus between first and second albums was a rather bizarre one. Vocalist/organist Mark Miers effectively quit the group to pursue other interests, presumably found them to be less interesting than expected, and then rejoined in time to complete an album -- 2005's Deeper High -- which, at least sonically speaking, behaves as if he never left in the first place! All good considering the Detroit natives' first outing had set a very good precedent; standing out from a rather stale late-'90s stoner rock revival by brusquely shaking (not stirring) equal doses of classic rock, space rock, and their hometown's vibrant, proto-punk legacy around a shiny (heavy) metallic canister -- then spicing it with just a dash of those dangerously excessive jam tendencies. There is a proverb that says, “If it’s a job worth doing, it’s worth doing well.” With that said, new gospel music sensation Shawnte’ approached the job of creating a new CD by giving her absolute best and she did it very well.Her new release, “So Faithful” is a 10-song disc filled with contemporary gospel grooves that’s bound to bless you. The Long Beach, California native displays an awesome array of talent with her powerful, yet soothing voice, belting out tunes almost effortlessly. There’s evidence that she poured her heart and soul into the project and it shows.At 19 years old Shawnte’ is already a singing veteran who’s had the hand of God on her life and career from the beginning. She began singing at age four. By age nine she had her first live performance, singing the Black National Anthem, “Lift Every Voice & Sing.” By age 11 she was a member of the young adult choir at her church in Southern California and two years later at 13 she became a member of the church’s praise team and is currently a choir director. “God has blessed me with a wonderful gift and I intend utilize it to the best of my ability,” says the young songbird and 2005 graduate of Perris Lake High School in Perris, California. “I love singing, especially unto the Lord. It is my desire to reach lost people with my music and encourage them to live righteously.”The CD includes the hit single, “I Love You More,” a smooth and graceful cut produced by Sacramento-based Roland Pollard. “I love that song! I immediately added it to my play list!” exclaimed Eric J. Chambers, host and producer of The Jazzspel radio show on Smooth Jazz 98.1 KIFM in San Diego, California. “Shawnte is really an old soul singing fresh, anointed songs. If you like Kiera “Kiki” Sheard, you’ll love Shawnte. She is an unheralded counterpart to Kiera without the famous family lineage. The Lord has blessed her big time and I expect greatness out of her,” says Chambers, who also hosts the wildly popular Jazzspel TV Show now seen worldwide on The Word Network.Another cut to listen for is “Don’t Give Up.” Says Shawnte’, “That song says whatever you’re going through, don’t give up.
