Perhaps the first thing one will notice about 3 Fox Drive is that there are six members in the group, and that doesn't even count the musicians who are sitting in with the band. If this seems like a lot of people, especially for an acoustic assembly, that's because it is. In a way, it's as though 3 Fox Drive are two bands in one on Listen to the Music, one part concentrating on solid instrumental work, the other providing both lead and harmony vocals. And while plenty of acoustic-based bands offer both good musicianship and stellar vocals, the real difference here is that both of the lead vocalists are women. Both Kim and Barb Fox provide lead vocals and support one another on harmony, while Joel Fox -- when the choruses kick into high gear -- also adds his voice to the mix. The opening cut, Tom Johnston's "Listen to the Music," gets the album off to a perky start. There's a nice version of Shelby Lynne/Stephanie Davis/Brent Maher's "Slow Me Down," and some solid originals -- "Short Walk to the Moon" and "Cold at the Bottom of Your Heart" -- by Kim Fox. Bassist Mike Anglin, mandolinist Jim Reed, and fiddler Megan Lynch -- along with a couple guests -- offer fine support on all of these songs. With 3 Fox Drive's combination of top-notch vocals, a bright acoustic underpinning, and a good set of songs, Listen to the Music is an enjoyable introduction to the band. ~ Ronnie D. Lankford, Jr.

3 stars Late Nights On a Backroad
The first time I ever heard Three Fox Drive was during a storm around midnight down some old roads that haven't been used much since the new highway was built & the radio picked up some station playing a "Bluegrass Hour". Low & behold I hear "Some Old Side Road" and became enamoured with it.

5 stars Bluegrass Renewed
Outstanding uptempo rendition of the classic "Listen to The Music". I am not just saying this because I know the Foxes, I don't particularly like the Country music scene, but this is good stuff.

5 stars Impressive vocalizing; Crafty songwriting
Playing Time – 46:30 -- Bluegrass aficionados have no doubt heard of The Fox Family and Kim Fox Band. Now, you’d better sit down and get ready for impressive showcase of 3 Fox Drive. Originally from the Adirondack Mountains of New York, the brother and two sisters (Joel, Kim and Barb) won the 1989 Winterhawk festival bluegrass band contest. Kim Fox, you may recall, is a prolific songwriter who won the prestigious songwriting contest at Merlefest in 1994. In the year 2000, The Fox Family became the Kim Fox Band (Kim, Joel, bassist Andrea Roberts, and fiddler Jesse Cobb). The clever Foxes have now embarked on a new path of musical ingenuity that emphasizes cunning acoustic keenness. Seven songs bear the mark of Kim Fox’s crafty songwriting, with each having their own distinctive flavorings but still being mainly easy listening country and folk fare. Their engaging approach doesn’t look for hooks, but rather songs like "Red Rose Bouquet," "Short Walk to the Moon," "Eye for an Eye," and "This Little House of Mine" have stirring messages that beg for close listening and introspective reflection. From a young girl’s perspective, the latter is a slow, sad tale of selling the house and moving on. It’s a common theme in bluegrass and country music, but “leaving the kid behind in this little house of mine” is a great new way to convey the sentiment. An exceptional love song, “Short Walk to the Moon” has a lot of heartfelt soul, and this song has potential to be covered and taken to the charts by top-name country musicians. With this amount of original material, I wish that lyrics would have been included in the CD jacket. 3 Fox Drive also covers material from Larry Cordle (“It Always Rains When I’m Lonesome”), Doobie Brothers ("Listen to the Music") and one done by Keith Whitley (Roger Ferris’ "Some Old Side Road"). From an early 90s recording by Shelby Lynne, “Slow Me Down” establishes a good groove with a recurring riff, the instruments trading licks, and impressive vocalizing. Besides Kim, Barb and Joel, the other musicians include Mike Anglin (bass), Megan Lynch (fiddle), Jim Reed (mandolin, lead guitar), Eric Darken (percussion), and Randy Kohrs (dobro). There are a few points where I wish that Kohrs’ dobro was mixed with a little more presence. With their polished, cohesive sound, this band will go far. You’d better take them up on their invitation at the album’s opener to “Listen to the Music.” (Joe Ross, staff writer, Bluegrass Now)

In the mid/late-'80s, the rock scene was hard to decipher. With an over-saturation of new bands either aping Led Zeppelin's boogie woogie metal or glam pop candy, older rock fans were left scratching their heads in bewilderment. Lucky for them, such classic rock bands as Bad Company made strong returns, as proven by 1988's DANGEROUS AGE. Like the band's other '80s recordings, the songs are slightly more commercial than their grittier ...
