Closed Captioned; Standard Screen; Soundtrack English Gene Kelly's light-footed comedy is a guide to the psyche of the suburban male, circa the mid-1960s. Walter Matthau is Paul Manning, a happily married father of one who is nonetheless intrigued by his pal Ed's many extramarital affairs. In a series of lessons and parables, Ed gives Paul a crash course in how to have the perfect affair while still being considerate of one's wife. Paul is fascinated and eager, but Ed urges caution so as to perfect the technique. When he thinks Paul is ready, Ed makes him do a "trial run," with Ed standing in for the hypothetical girl. Paul passes with flying colors, and when Ed gives him the go-ahead, a likely candidate seems to fall into his lap--literally. The movie is peppered with vignettes of Ed's cautionary tales, featuring cameos from countless Hollywood stars. Matthau is his usual brilliantly dry comic self in this tongue-in-cheek exploration of infidelity and marriage. At the time, a new movie classification--"A"--allowed producer Frank McCarthy to produce a comedy that condoned adultery.
McCarthy specifically wanted Kelly to direct the film because he knew Kelly was well-liked enough in Hollywood to be able to procure the film's many cameos.
At the time of filming, Walter Matthau was recovering from a recent heart attack.

Guide For The Married Man Movie Review Average Rating: (5 out of 5 stars) Deny, Deny, DENY! After 12 years of marriage, Walter Matthau is ready for a change. He takes infidelity lessons from a friend (Robert Morse), and the result is a large number of comic scenes. A high-spirited film, largely due to Matthau's wonderful performance and Gene Kelly's inspired direction. The legendary Jayne Mansfield appears as a dumb blonde with Terry-Thomas as a philander who spend the night together in his house while his wife's out of town. Panic sets in when the roving "Tiger's" buxom playmate manages to lose her bra "in the heat of battle." Though short, it's a highly amusing bit. Another great vignette is one in which Carl Reiner as a mega movie star sets up a rendezvous with a nubile starlet (Linda Harrison). They fly off in opposite directions to make their way by plane, ship, bus, rickshaw and skis to meet in a chalet in the Alps just as the actor's wife breaks in. The laugh's on Matthau, of course, as a misguided soul who would consider cheating on his beautiful and so much the perfect wife (Inger Stevens). That alone should qualify him as fig-head of the year. With a sparkling score by John(ny) Williams and a great title track by The ("Happy Together") Turtles. I have always hoped for a sequel where we catch up with Terry-Thomas, still desperately searching for Mansfield's missing bra! $16.89 The title refers to the night when three men, Randy (Matt Dillon), his cousin Carl (Paul Reiser) and Detective Dehling (John Goodman), all meet Jewel Valentine (Liv Tyler) at a bar called McCool's. Actually, they don't so much meet her as fall under her spell when they first lay eyes on her. In her clinging red dress she looks like a cross between a beautiful damsel in distress and the Lady In Red looking for John Dillinger. The story begins with Randy, desperate to be rid of Jewel, hiring a sleazy hitman, played ...

$9.85 Blake Edwards's return to the male-in-meltdown territory he explored in 10 and THAT'S LIFE stars John Ritter as unemployed writer Zach, who is not only suffering from writer's block, but his drinking is out of control, as is his obsessive womanizing, and, not surprisingly, his wife wants to end their marriage. To add to his problems, his house has just burned down, and his agent is knocking at death's door. But since this is a Blake Edwards comedy, Zach has enough charm and relative ...

Guide For The Married Man video
$7.09 Spanish actress turned director Laura Mana delivers an enchanting fable, by turns funny and achingly poignant, and seasoned with a bit of magical realism. Opening in black-and-white and set in a dull, drab Mexican town, the inhabitants of the film are beset by a bad case of the doldrums: the kids are taciturn, the adults are listless, and the elderly are afflicted. Among them, Dolores (Elisabeth Margoni, LOVE, ACTUALLY) stands out as a pious, big-hearted, and lovable woman, but her husband leaves her because he finds her undiluted goodness ...
