BECOME is the 2005 album by the Swedish prog-metal band Seventh Wonder.
Become is the debut album from Seventh Wonder, a fantastic young and talented progressive metal band from Sweden that will turn a lot of heads around. "The arrangements are more than well done, the guitar work is outstanding and the execution is perfect! Those musicians are so talented! If you're looking for huge melodies and big solos that may be a good choice. The complexity of progressive, the intensity of metal and the rock vibe! That's what Seventh Wonder is all about." - The Darkest Hours. The band is spearheaded by guitarist Johan Liefvendahl, and includes vocalist Tommy Karevik, bassist Andreas Blomqvist, drummer Johnny Sandin, and keyboardist Andreas Soderin. Become album
$15.39 Sweden's Evergrey figure among a rare breed of progressive metal bands capable of balancing their undeniably impressive musicianship and lofty song and lyric-writing ambitions with the commitment to serving a song's best interest, not their own individual instrumental prowess. More unique yet is their heavy reliance on power metal -- often the most predictable and repetitive of metal subgenres -- for much of their sonic imprint, as they effortlessly integrate its best elements into their inventive compositions. Arguably their most consistent and rewarding to date, the group's stellar fourth album Recreation Day fleshes out what few forced experiments had tarnished earlier works into a strong and cohesive set from start to finish. Singer/guitarist Tom Englund wisely eschews the operatic excesses employed by many of his peers, both in the progressive and power metal fields; yet his range is quite impressive, ranging from delicately emotive melodies (particularly on the beautiful "Madness Caught Another Victim") to spitting ...
| | Zero Hour Fragile Mind CD (2005)
Become CD music
$13.89 If a huge meteor were to fatally damage our beloved planet Earth, it might be expected that only two things would survive -- cockroaches and prog metal. Despite a rapid turnover of hard rock styles and subgenres over the years, prog metal always seems to survive. A case in point: the fourth release by San Francisco's Zero Hour, 2005's A Fragile Mind. All the pieces are in place for a prog metal party -- singer Fred Marshall's Geoff Tate-esque vocals, guitarist Jasun Tipton's John Petrucci-esque six-string work, and (of course) thinking man's lyrics and tricky song structures. This is the type of stuff that requires hours upon hours of listening alone in your bedroom to be able to play, and Zero Hour's instrumental chops are never in question here, as evidenced by such selections as "Destiny Is Sorrow" and the title track. And no prog metal album would be complete without an instrumental, and Zero Hour gives you not one, but two -- "Somnecrophobia" and the album-closing "Intrinsic." For prog metal with a power metal edge, A Fragile Mind is the album to beat in 2005. ~ Greg Prato
Zero Hour is one of the most promising newcomers in the progressive metal underground. The mix of heavy riffs, atmospheric keyboards, brilliant clean vocals, complex song structure and metaphoric texts that hits the nerve of all fan of impressive metal, who counts bands such as Fates Warning, ...
| | Vanden Plas Christ 0 CD (2006) Bonus Track
Become music CDs
$14.55 The bottom line for those who don't already know: Vanden Plas rocks. This German progressive metal band is disciplined, with excellent musicians who understand complexity and know how to employ it without it getting in the way of fine songwriting, emotional transference, and ultimately the kind of hair-raising excess that makes heavy metal such an enduring genre. Christ 0 is a concept album about a serial killer (the album is titled after him) and the man (Inspector X) who seeks to capture him. Should one find that concept to be clichéd, stop reading right now. These nine songs reflect a manner of composition, sublime taste, bone-crunching power, and breathtaking dynamics, along with an excellent use of texture and sonics not heard since Queensrÿche's classic Operation: Mindcrime. This is the story of a man betrayed, stripped of everything he loves, and convicted of a crime he did not commit -- and who ultimately loses his own humanity. The man who pursues him must confront the very things in himself that keep him obsessed with his prey. Musically, this is where the line between symphonic metal and the classic sounds of early (In Trance period) Scorpions, Dio, Queensrÿche, Judas Priest, and Peter Gabriel-era Genesis becomes blurred. Andy Kuntz is a singer who doesn't have to shriek or growl, because he is a trained ...
| | Seventh Wonder Waiting In The Wings CD (2006) (Import) Finland
Become songs
$18.39 Seventh Wonder was formed in 2000 by bass player Andreas Blomqvist, guitarist Johan Liefvendahl and drummer Johnny Sandin after their previous band fell apart. The music turned towards the progressive side of metal and as the band was joined by keyboard player Andreas 'Kyrt' Söderin late 2000, the new sound was cemented further. Two demos were recorded, the first in 2001 (Seventh Wonder) and the second in 2003 (Temple In The Storm), both of which received good press. Many singers have come and gone in Seventh Wonder over the years, among others Ola Halen of power metal band Insania Sthlm. The longest living member in the past was Andi Kravljaca (ex: Heave, Elsesphere), and it was with Andi at the microphone that the band recorded their debut album Become (released in 2005), after landing a record deal with Finland's Lion Music. Become was well received by the press and top scores were given everywhere. However, the band parted ways with ...

| | Luiz Bonfa Non-Stop To Brazil CD (1989) (Import)
Become music CDs
$17.39 Ever since his songs "Manha de Carnaval" and "Samba de Orfeu" were included in the 1959 film Black Orpheus, Luiz Bonfa has been one of the most celebrated figures in Brazilian music. In fact, the composer/acoustic guitarist's work commands the type of reverence enjoyed by such all-time greats as Antonio Carlos Jobim, Laurindo Almeida and Joao Gilberto. The entirely instrumental Non-Stop to Brazil marked the first time Bonfa (a master of samba and bossa nova) had set foot in an American recording studio in 15 years. Under the direction of jazz guitarist and Chesky Records President David Chesky, Bonfa (who is joined only by percussionist Café and, on three pieces, fellow guitarist Gene Bertoncini) revisits many of his best-known works. Anyone with even a basic knowledge of Brazilian music will recognize "Manha de Carnaval" and ...
| | Helen Merrill Brownie: Homage To Clifford Brown CD (1995)
Become songs
$16.29 40 years after recording a classic album with trumpeter Clifford Brown, singer Helen Merrill paid tribute to the late Brownie, who died tragically in 1956. Utilizing on various tracks trumpeters Tom Harrell, Wallace Roney, Roy Hargrove and Lew Soloff, as well as pianist Kenny Barron, bassist Rufus Reid and drummer Victor Lewis, Merrill performs a variety of tunes, most of which were associated with Brown. There are plenty of unexpected surprises on the date, including passages where the trumpet ensemble performs parts of Brownie's original solos; also noteworthy are Harrell's unaccompanied flugelhorn version of "Joy Spring," Barron's solo piano rendition of "Memories of You" and touching moments like "I'll Be Seeing You," "I Remember Clifford" and "Gone With the Wind." Producer Torrie Zito sometimes adds some atmospheric and effective synthesizer, and in addition ...
