This 2006 re-release contains five bonus tracks: acoustic versions of previously released songs.
Following up its lauded 2004 debut, the South Carolina emo-core band Emery went for a tighter, edgier approach on THE QUESTION. During its finest moments, the group recalls early Tool in both its overall sound and the often-soaring lead vocals of Toby Morelle. Of course, like many of its peers, Emery insists on scattering abrupt, throat-shredding screams into the mix (thereby garnering the "screamo" tag). Bone-jarring wails aside, the sextet knows how to weave both powerful guitar riffs and delicate melodies into their songs, resulting in a dynamic album full of angst and other dark emotions. Those expecting a Queen tribute on "Listening to Freddie Mercury" may be shocked to discover a fierce barrage of hardcore instead, and that's Emery's secret weapon--the element of surprise. Although there are quiet passages, THE QUESTION falls into the heavier side of emo territory, and it's clear that Emery wouldn't want it any other way.
Emery: Toby Morrell (vocals); Matt Carter (guitar); Josh Head (bass guitar); Dave Powell (drums); Devin Shelton (background vocals).

| | From First To Last Dear Diary, My Teen Angst Has A Body Count CD (2004)
Question music CDs
$11.69 Since the early 2000s, what's now known as post-hardcore has been consistently codified into something eminently marketable. Screaming bloody murder over churning angular guitars has suddenly salable qualities, as long as the rage is offset by whimpering pianos and heart-flailing harmonies. This systemization isn't necessarily bad, as the groups it affects often make very arresting music. But that doesn't mean the formula itself isn't questionable. In 2004 From First to Last unleashes its first full-length via Epitaph, after debuting with an EP for the tiny New York imprint Four Leaf. And it has the right idea, using dense lyricism and inventively propulsive drumming to separate Dear Diary, My Teen Angst Has a Bodycount from the teeming post-hardcore pack. But like so many of its peers, FFTL ...

$12.29 In the liner notes preceding the lyrics to the title track of Anberlin's NEVER TAKE FRIENDSHIP PERSONAL, chief songwriter/lead vocalist Stephen Christian muses "you told me to 'write a song about it' so here's your song." Question music CDs
$11.05 Admittedly, the Detroit Cobras are simply a cover band. But with their release Life, Love and Leaving on the Long Beach label Sympathy for the Record Industry (the label responsible for the White Stripes' incredible international success), they've been given a bit of credence and an opportunity to showcase their amazing homegrown chops. These 14 songs, all Motown, soul, and good ole rock & roll standards, are the perfect material to bring this Detroit garage rock combo to life. Guitarists Dante Aliano and Maribel Restrepo set the frets afire with seething twangs and fuzz-box chord ...

| | Bottle Rockets Brand New Year CD (1999)
Question music CDs
$10.45 Principally recorded at The Studio, Springfield, Missouri in January & February 1999.
The '90s turned out to be a little tough for the Bottle Rockets. Upon the release of its eponymous debut in 1993, the Missouri quartet was almost universally hailed as one of the leaders of the post-Uncle Tupelo Americana movement, but the band lost momentum when trying to make it in the big leagues. It wasn't for lack of trying. They labored over their official Atlantic debut, 24 Hours a Day, but when they were touring the album, the label pulled their support, leaving them to flounder. The Rockets regrouped and released a collection of outtakes, Leftovers, the following year, as they decided what to do next. Wisely, they seized an opportunity for a fresh start, which is what Brand New Year, their first studio album for Doolittle Records, is. They've decided to emphasize their roots as a bar band, cutting away their country tendencies and playing up their fondness for '70s hard rock. The twist is, Rockets leader Brian Henneman tries to inject some intelligence and self-aware humor into the lyrics. At times, it works, but it's just as frequently awkward ...
| | Fall Room To Live CD (1983) Import
Question songs
$15.89 Fall leader Mark E. Smith had never been satisfied with the sound of 1983's PERVERTED BY LANGUAGE, so this CD release has been completely remixed. This is not only The Fall's best-sounding album-it may well be the group's best album, period. PERVERTED BY LANGUAGE is an important record in The Fall's long and prolific career, as it begins a six-year stretch during which the band released one excellent album after another--each filled with such intelligent, knotty, and increasingly pop-oriented songs as LANGUAGE's "Eat Y'self Fitter," "Smile," and "I Feel Voxish." LANGUAGE is also the first album to feature Smith's then-wife Brix on guitar. The CD includes five tracks previously available only on singles, including 1982's amazing "Kicker Conspiracy," a funny and appealing song about football.
1982's ROOM TO LIVE is a transitional album in The Fall's long and amazingly prolific career. The band's two-drummer lineup--excellently showcased on the live FALL IN A HOLE AND LIVE ON AIR IN MELBOURNE--was at its peak on ROOM TO LIVE. The album's seven tracks match singer/provocateur Mark E. Smith's increasingly ...

Question CD music
$10.49 Contemporary country duo Bomshel issue FIGHT LIKE A GIRL, their 2009 debut album, three years after Curb licensed EP BOMSHEL STOMP on their own label. The duo of Kristy Osmunson and Kelley Shepard created a buzz on country radio earlier in the year with the single "Fight Like a Girl," written by the pair with Bob Regen, which has become an anthem--especially for young women--of empowerment. That track is obviously ...
