03 A Trilogy, PT. 1 Music Charlie Dominici 03 A Trilogy, PT. 1 Songs 03 A Trilogy, PT. 1 Music Review Average Rating: (3 out of 5 stars) Acoustic Mindcrime This guy was amazing when he fronted the band "Dream Theater" so I was interested to see what he is up to now. When I first listened to the new CD "O3,A Trilogy, part one",I have to admit that I was a little surprised that it was all acoustic with no heavy instruments. After reading the lyrics along with my second listening I realized there was something more here than first meets the ear. This is a scary concept album about an impending end of the world scenario told in 10 songs that weave an adeptly played and sung story.
Charlie sings in vocal registers that have previously been unheard from this versatile and emotinal vocalist. He also shows himself to be an accomplished guitar player and writer/producer.Go out and get this CD before it becomes hard to find. Not for me Buyers beware, this release is nothing like parts 2 & 3 of the trilogy. This release is nothing more than Charlie Dominici and a acoustic guitar. When Charlie gets adventurous, he throws in a little harmonica. I have to admit, listening to this album from start to finish was pretty tedious. Charlie's crooning sounds really uncomfortable to me, reminding me of someone trying to do Bob Dylan or to a lesser extent, Johnny Cash songs on open mic night. Sorry Charlie, this is far from your finest hour. Submitted by chevdaddy1 (Gwinn, Mi) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

03 A Trilogy, PT. 1 album
$11.05 TRAIN OF THOUGHT continues the legacy of the progressive metal legends, with all the requisite superhuman metallic musicianship that their fans have come to expect. This outing continues in the heavier mode that began with 2002's SIX DEGREES OF INNER TURBULENCE, reaching even further into darker, personal lyrical themes.
Guitars are the dominant expressive voice here, with keyboards scaled considerably back from the signature Dream Theater sound. Band members Mike Portnoy (drums) and John Petrucci (guitar) continue their do-it-yourself production approach, opting for recording venues on their native Long Island (much of the band's album work has taken place in upstate New York at Bear Tracks and Little Bear Studios). "As ...

03 A Trilogy, PT. 1 music CDs
$10.59 As the sole major-label progressive-metal act, Dream Theater invariably set the standard as the flagship band of the genre. With the numerically themed OCTAVARIUM (including eight tracks signifying the band's eighth release) the shred-rock quintet continues to challenge themselves creatively. Opening track "The Root Of All Evil" picks up the thread that began with "The Glass Prison" (SIX DEGREES OF INNER TURBULENCE) and carried forward to "This Dying Soul" (TRAIN OF THOUGHT). Drummer Mike Portnoy's lyrics for these songs read like a set of deeply personal journal entries documenting his painful recovery experience, further disclosed by ...

$14.55 Longtime fans of Dream Theater will remember Charlie Dominici from their 1989 debut, When Dream and Day Unite, which turned out to be his only album with the progressive metal band. Dream Theater fired Dominici, allegedly because his vocal style was "too pop." Dream Theater drummer Mike Portnoy was quoted as saying that Dominici's presence in Dream Theater "was like having Billy Joel singing in Queensr˙che" -- in other words, Portnoy acknowledged that Dominici was a skillful vocalist but felt he wasn't right for Dream Theater. Dominici, however, didn't abandon progressive metal, and he resurfaced in the 2000s with his 03 trilogy. Listening to the third part of the trilogy, it is hard to imagine why someone would think that Dominici wasn't metal enough; there is plenty of metal bravado on 03 a Trilogy, Pt. 3, an ...
