Frequent Flyer: Mile High Club album
$16.79 The Kinkysweet label continued its output of thematic mix CDs with the Frequent Flyer series, which supplanted the long-running Bargrooves series. These two-disc mixes are thematic in the sense that they're assembled with a particular locale in mind, namely a fashionable far-flung metropolis with a particular style of music to its credit. Predictably, the Rio de Janeiro volume is characterized by various aspects of Brazilian music, chiefly samba, though at its core this mix is firmly within the house music camp. For instance, instrumentation generally associated with samba is all over this volume, and a number of selections are full-on fusions. While there are a number of standout tracks (e.g., Physics' "The Most Beautiful Boy in Brazil") and some big-name talent showcased (Thievery Corporation, Nicola Conte, Ian Pooley, Lisa Shaw), this isn't an all-around excellent disc. Then again, none of these Kinkysweet mixes are all-around excellent -- in general, ...

Frequent Flyer: Mile High Club CD music
$15.75 Brazilian music has always been a big influence for electronica artists (not to mention jazz and rock artists, as well, but that's a whole different album), and although Kinkysweet's not the first to compile something that shows that off (and certainly won't be the last), what they've released with Frequent Flyer: Ipanema is still a pretty good collection in its own right. The first disc focuses more on the lighter, breezier sounds of artists like Seu Jorge and Bebel Gilberto, while the second moves into the cooler club sounds that dominate warm Rio nights, with songs and remixes by both Brazilian and non-Brazilian groups. This distinction is not concrete, however: the ...

Frequent Flyer: Mile High Club songs
$10.15 Originally released as part of Head, a limited-edition set of remixes taken from the master tapes of Pigface's 2003 album Easy Listening. . ., Clubhead Nonstopmegamix #1 is just as the title implies: a remix of Easy Listening. . . designed for maximum dancefloor utility. The remixer, Omegaman, has skills aplenty, and he re-imagines the album, along with a cache of never-before-released outtakes, into a seamless megamix. While this is great for all-night dancing, it unfortunately is nowhere near as interesting as Easy Listening. . . for the stay-at-homes, ...
