As The Weird Travel On
$15.05 Digitally remastered by George Marino at Sterling Sound, New York, New York.
With 1989's BENEATH THE REMAINS, Sepultura began a remarkable four-album streak of bold, innovative thrash metal that is nearly unparalleled in the genre. Here the Brazilian quartet transformed from a promising death metal band into a musical force of nature, with Max Cavalera's gruff, primal vocals and potent rhythm-guitar riffs leading the way for the blistering guitar lines of Andreas Kisser and the crushing rhythms of bassist Paulo Jr. and drummer Igor Cavalera (Max's brother).
Every selection on REMAINS seethes with intensity, particularly the opening title track, which moves from a haunting acoustic-guitar passage to a fierce metallic barrage, and the record's lead single, "Inner Self," which is marked by ...
| | Immortal Sons Of Northern Darkness CD (2002) Bonus DVD
As The Weird Travel On
$13.35 Immortal's Nuclear Blast debut, and this Norwegian trio's seventh album to date, Sons of Northern Darkness, marks a monumental statement that reverberates throughout the black metal community. Sons of Northern Darkness is arguably one of the best black metal releases ever put forth, as it fully articulates what many other bands of this nature fail to embrace. Thick, meaty riffs dominate the album, as guitarist Abbath shreds the competition with mind-blowing melody and relentlessly brutal power. Abbath also controls vocal duty, and though his voice is darkly sinister, it holds a slight fringe of harmony that fleshes out each song. Add to that Iscariah's ...
| | Cannibal Corpse Butchered At Birth CD (1991) Bonus Tracks; Enhanced CD
As The Weird Travel On
$9.69 In the early '90s, Cannibal Corpse acquired a small cult in the death metal underground by embracing some of the most gruesome lyrics the subgenre had to offer. Thriving on shock value, the band inspires comparisons to GWAR and comes across as a parody ...
| | Cannibal Corpse Eaten Back To Life CD (1990) Bonus Tracks; Enhanced CD
As The Weird Travel On
$9.69 Cannibal Corpse emerged fully formed out of Florida's famous death metal swamp with this one. All the trademarks are in place, from the B-horror movie album cover art to the ludicrously over the top lyrics -- "Brains devoured in a frenzied slaughter, thirst for gore nothing more/Bile is dripping, puss from wounds, as the coroner drinks it down." Chris Barnes growls his vocals like Satan on a diet of razor blades and paint thinner, and the playing is uniformly savage. Although their pursuit of lyrical and musical extremes was something of a joke from this first release on, Cannibal Corpse's single-minded devotion to their cause is admirable. ~ Leslie Mathew

As The Weird Travel On
$10.49 Also available in a 3-pack with THE LAST COMMAND and THE HEADLESS CHILDREN.
By 1984, Kiss had been unmasked for a year and Alice Cooper was on hiatus. But L.A. bands like W.A.S.P. (which stood for "We Are Sexual Perverts") were picking up the theatrical, shock-metal slack quite nicely. The band would wear eerie make-up, tight leather, and knee-high boots, while wielding a variety ...

| | Perry Como By Request/Sing To Me, Mr. C. CDs (2001)
As The Weird Travel On
$12.15 Collectables Records' two-CD set By Request/Sing to Me, Mr. C. combines two early-'60s Perry Como albums. By Request, actually the later of the two discs, having been released initially in 1962, finds Como tackling some of the best songs of the day, the album given over to early-'60s hits like "Can't Help Falling in Love" and "Moon River." Of course, those songs are closely associated with other singers, but Como puts his stamp on them, as he does with such quality material as "Maria" from West Side Story and "My Favorite Things" from The Sound of Music. Sing to Me, Mr. C., originally released in 1961, keys off the popular medley segment of Como's TV show, complete with performances of his opening and closing themes, plus six medleys of three songs each. (The nearly 43-minute running time, unusually long for a pop album of the era, made it impossible for Collectables to put the two albums on one CD.) The medleys don't usually have any apparent thematic or musical cohesion, and especially on record they just seem like a series of unrelated songs, some with little space ...

| | Nadine Bryant Everybody's Looking For Something CD (2008)
As The Weird Travel On
$15.15 It has taken singer/songwriter, Nadine Bryant some time to select the songs out of all she's written that reflect her varied tastes in music. She has always leaned toward anything with a heavy beat and lots of harmonies but she is also drawn to a bluesy ballad as well as latin rhythms. So overall it has been a labor of love for all music that she has put together this new CD. Starting at a very young age with her father and sister on live radio shows, church choirs ...
