Reviews havn't been from the band members themselves; What! Like with any e.p, it's a calaboration of the band; being together 6months or years. Though this cd only sticking to me the 5th or 6th time I heard it. I have to say the harmonies with the melodic hardcore was genius; and the guitar licks are sweet. Apart from the repetitive riffs from time to time. Its a crappy freshman effort; Reminds me of Avenged Sevenfold cross with Thursday. Give the screamer a tour and a 2nd release and the music might be sounding very choice.
P.S. By the way the guy talking on start of track 3 or 4 with the "You don't know me, blah blah blah son of a...." Now I must say that was pretty lame! Submitted by Duane (Brisbane, Australia) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

$14.35 It isn't hard to find listeners who aren't huge fans of progressive rock on the whole but are passionate followers of certain prog bands -- and if you ask them why they enjoy Pink Floyd, Yes, or the Moody Blues so much more than they enjoy other prog bands, they'll tell you that their favorites have mastered something that the others haven't: great hooks. And without a doubt, hooks are a major reason ...

Amity Affliction album
$11.65 UNDISPUTED ATTITUDE is a collection of covers of punk-rock songs.
Slayer's Undisputed Attitude feels more like a stopgap than an actual Slayer record. Rather than another set of blasting, disturbing originals like 1994's Divine Intervention or 1995's Serenity in Murder EP, this album is a collection of covers. Containing 14 tracks, the band covers everyone from Minor Threat to T.S.O.L., from D.I. to Iggy Pop. Given Slayer's Huntington Beach, CA, homeland, the hardcore roots are plain enough. But HB is also a big metal town, and these cats as youngsters were exposed to everything from Motörhead to Black Sabbath and the early L.A. metal scene. True to their course, however, they've never sounded like anyone but themselves. Even on a collection of covers (with a pair of originals thrown in to boot), the Slayer imprint is unmistakable, and while taking a breather from fresh ideas on their own projects, this disc sounds like the bandmembers were having a blast if not exactly breaking new ground. All but two of these cuts are less than three minutes long, with a number of them come in under two -- in keeping with true hardcore fashion. Even on the completely over-the-rail covers of Minor Threat's "Filler/I Don't Want To Hear It" and "Guilty of Being White," the guitar breaks are unmistakably their own. Paul Bostaph's thin drumming (as opposed to founding drummer Dave Lombardo's) is actually more suited to this material. The cover of the Stooges' "I Wanna Be Your Dog" contains the title "I'm Gonna Be Your God" -- it wouldn't do for Slayer to be thought of in any way submissive, would it? (Although none would have cared but them, which tells you where they're coming from.) The band basically improves upon T.S.O.L.'s "Spiritual Law," and the long reach into D.I.'s catalog for no less than five cuts -- four of them done in a pair of medleys -- offers a few more examples of where Slayer come from. They are extremely ...
| | Pepper Give 'N It CD (2000)
Amity Affliction CD music
$8.79 Whenever a trend is hot, one can safely assume that saturation will take place. Inevitably, labels will try to cash in, and that means signing a lot of faceless, unoriginal clone artists. That has happened with everything from disco to gangsta rap, and there was no reason to believe that it would be any different with ska-punk in the '90s. When Pepper's debut album, Give'n It, came out in 1999, plenty of alternative rockers were jumping on the ska-punk bandwagon and trying to sound like the Mighty Mighty Bosstones or Reel Big Fish (just as a lot of upstart rap-metallers were going out of their way to emulate Korn or Limp Bizkit). But thankfully, Pepper had more vision than that, and was smart enough to use Jamaican influences in its own way. This fairly promising, if uneven, debut isn't as focused or as consistent as Pepper's second album, Kona Town, would be. Nonetheless, the band deserves credit for doing its own thing -- blending alternative pop/rock, reggae, and punk, likable tracks like "Prank Caller" and "Feels Good" made it clear that Pepper wasn't just another visionless band that had modeled itself after the ska-punk flavor of the month. On Give'n It, Pepper sounds like a diamond in the rough -- a band that still has some growing and developing to do but certainly has potential. And one could hear the band's growth and development when Kona Town came out in 2002. If you had to choose between Give'n It and Kona Town, the latter would give you more bang for your buck. But this CD, despite its imperfections, indicated that Pepper was well worth keeping an eye on. ~ Alex Henderson
