| | Susan Tedeschi Hope & Desire CD Susan Tedeschi Discography of CDs
(2 Customer Reviews)
Three years after her Grammy-nominated record, WAIT FOR ME, Massachusetts-based blues singer Susan Tedeschi returned with a new studio album, produced by Joe Henry. As always, Tedeschi applies her soulful vocals to a variety of stirring covers, including a spare take on the Rolling Stones' "You Got the Silver" and a pleading rendition of Bob Dylan's "Lord Protect My Child." Here the formidable vocalist is aided by her husband, multi-instrumentalist Derek Trucks, as well as guitarist Doyle Bramhall II (Eric Clapton) and the Blind Boys of Alabama.

Hope & Desire album
$12.15 Part of a new series of recordings taken from the Austin City Limits broadcasts, Susan Tedeschi's performance is a more complete -- though not unedited -- version of what viewers saw on TV. Tedeschi's music naturally gives itself to a live setting. The program is a good one; featuring her regular band, this set juxtaposes a nice collection of material that has appeared on her studio albums, performed with a wonderful balance of passion and finesse that free-ranges across R&B, blues, and funk. Tedeschi's gifts as a singer are considerable. She understands the limits of her middling range and knows how to emphasize nuance and expressiveness. In fact, though most obviously influenced by Bonnie Raitt, she is a true vocal stylist with her own unique sense of phrasing -- and live, the added grit and grease underscore the emotional nature ...

| | Derek Trucks Songlines CD (2006)
Hope & Desire music CDs
$11.39 This is, perhaps, the one. Derek Trucks has been on an aesthetic quest for something since he began his own recording career in 1997 -- apart from his membership in the Allman Brothers Band. Each record has gone further into establishing Trucks not only as a slide guitar wizard (that happened when he was still in his teens), but also as a serious songwriter, fine arranger, and bandleader. The Derek Trucks Band, as evidenced by the release of 2003's Soul Serenade, is a unit -- a band -- whose core has been together for eight years. They create an atmosphere, a sound, a musical sense of place and community. On Live at the Georgia Theater (available only on the Internet), the DTB performed with new vocalist Mike Mattison, who gave them something they needed: a strong, utilitarian presence ...
