| | Best Of 70'S Rock CD
Best of 70's Rock is a decent two-disc set that should really be titled "Best of 70's Pop," as it highlights 20 singles that made the pop charts throughout that decade. Along with tried and true AM radio classics by Guess Who, Brewer & Shipley, Jefferson Starship, and Hall & Oates are lesser-heard tracks by Toby Beau, Jaggerz, Michael Nesmith, and Jerry Reed. These are the original recordings and, with the exception of its awful cover art, this compilation is recommended. ~ Al Campbell

Best Of 70'S Rock songs
$12.59 The album includes thirteen songs, ten original Van Morrison compositions and three classic interpretations of the jazz standards, "I'm Confessin", "This Love Of Mine" and "Lonely & Blue". "Magic Time" is the first release from Van Morrison since "What's Wrong With This Picture?" in 2003 and marks the 40th anniversary of his first hits with his then band Them. With songs such as "Stranded", the title track "Magic Time", "Celtic New Year" and "Gypsy In My Soul", Van Morrison has created some of his most powerful songs to date, with every emotion seemingly having its place within the fabric of what many will view as one of his most important albums of the past twenty ...
| | Marmalade Ultimate Collection CDs (2005) Remastered
Best Of 70'S Rock album
$22.29 Marmalade is often overlooked when lists of the great bands of the '60s British pop scene are compiled. Much like the Tremeloes and Honeybus, two other bands that didn't get much respect, Marmalade was perhaps too poppy and sweet to leave the same lasting impression that the Kinks, Small Faces, and Beatles did. The Ultimate Collection gathers together the group's entire recorded output from 1966 to 1972, with disc one covering their tenure at CBS and the other two covering their time with Decca. Their mid-'60s CBS recordings showcase the group's lush vocal harmonies, chunky musical backing, and high quality songwriting. At their best, on songs like "I See the Rain," "Wait a Minute Baby," and "Mr. Lion," Marmalade created a powerful ...

$21.19 The meat of the order here is definitely the first disc, TRAVELING WILBURYS, VOL. 1, a certified masterpiece with five legends at the top of their game. | | Bad Company In Concert: Merchants Of Cool. CD (2002)
Best Of 70'S Rock songs
$9.99 Principally recorded live at The Paramount Theater, Denver, Colorado; The Grove Of Anaheim, Anaheim, California, in January 2002.
Oddly enough, on this 2002 live recording by Bad Company, vocalist Paul Rodgers sounds younger than he ever has on record. And no, that's not necessarily a good thing. Bad Company's original members number two: Rodgers and drummer Simon Kirke; bassist Jaz Lochrie and guitarist Dave Colwell have replaced Boz Burrell and Mick Ralphs, who were smart enough to bail after the obligatory reunion tour that resulted in a previous live album. True enough, Bad Company was once able to inspire legions of rock fans with their melodic, memorable, tough, and lean bluesy paeans to lovers, losers, gamblers, and ramblers, and one would hope that even with a new lineup some of that inspiration and fire ...

| | Autumn Defense CD (2007)
Best Of 70'S Rock album
$12.15 It's easy to tag the Autumn Defense as a band striving to re-create the sun-splashed sound of the classic California folk-rock and chamber pop albums of the '60s and early '70s, but while their musical influences are clear, the truth is that Patrick Sansone and John Stirratt have delivered an album every bit as satisfying and beautiful as the artists they've followed with their self-titled third release. The Autumn Defense is a rich and mature collection of songs that sparkle with melodic beauty without ignoring the more difficult emotions that are often part and parcel of commitment; thankfully devoid of self-pity or a deluded joy, these songs speak of passion and experience in equal portions, and the superb arrangements and crisp, nearly flawless playing bring forward the impassioned material with inspired accuracy. As songwriters, Sansone and Stirratt deliver their strongest work to date on The Autumn Defense, and Sansone's production is lush without sounding excessive, as a superb ensemble of musicians (among them Nels Cline, Brad Jones, and Jim Hoke) weave superb textures around the melodies. The result is an album that wouldn't have sounded out of place coming from Elektra Records in 1970, but The Autumn Defense isn't an act of nostalgia for an era these musicians are too young to have been part of; instead, Sansone, Stirratt, and their collaborators have embraced the sound of a previous era and used it as a creative stepping stone into the present, and the finished product is truly timeless music ...
