(5 Customer Reviews)
CCM group Casting Crowns build on the powerful indie-rock sound of their first album with this 2005 follow-up. Like their self-titled debut, LIFESONG is full of declarations of Christian faith set to music that would sound right at home on MTV and mainstream rock radio. LIFESONG widens Casting Crowns' thematic palette, by mixing in attacks on hypocrisy ("Stained Glass Masquerade") and politics ("While You Were Sleeping"), and meditations on familiar parables ("Prodigal"), among the songs of straightforward praise. Add to these themes sharp, accessible arrangements and the stirring singing of lead vocalist Mark Hall and you've got a contemporary pop-rock record of substance.
Casting Crowns: Mark Hall (vocals); Megan Garrett, Andy Williams, Hector Cervantes, Juan DeVevo, Melodee DeVevo, Chris Huffman.
Casting Crowns Lifesong Songs Lifesong Music Review Average Rating: (5 out of 5 stars) GREAT CD! I especially love how Casting Crowns isn't afraid to criticize certain political viewpoints in America today...in the song "While You Were Sleeping" they say:
"As we're sung to sleep by philosophies that save the trees and kill the children"
I don't like when certain Christian bands are too afraid to offend and prefer to stay neutral in politics. Abortion is murder, and Casting Crowns makes that clear... Submitted by Ricardo (Rancho Cucamonga, CA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 1 found this helpful.

$11.29 ALMOST THERE is state-of-the-art worship rock from the wittily named quintet whose major label debut this is. Mercyme have an almost '80s style, and unless you listen closely to their lyrics you could mistake ALMOST THERE for something by the Alarm or a late effort by Big Country. Their popularity attests to seven years of hard work (they have half a dozen independent albums to their credit) and the burgeoning US worship music scene.
Though some may find the worship genre disconcertingly one-dimensional, Mercyme have an original way with a lyric, rendering songs like "How Great Is Your Love" and "Bless Me Indeed (Jabez's Song)" fresh and inspirational, while the shining simplicity of a song ...

$14.95 Christian rock music's detractors often cite the eternally sunny, feel-good "I'm okay, you're okay" attitude of many CCM albums as a quality antithetical to real rock & roll. While Casting Crowns certainly offer their fair share of optimistic praise, the group also takes a page from the original 1960's San Francisco Jesus Freak movement's aggressively evangelical book. On several songs, lead vocalist/lyricist Mark Hall quite directly points out the disparity between the Bible's teaching and the world's shortcomings, calling out all manners of hypocrisy, materialism, and cowardice, and then demanding an explanation. This unusually forceful message is framed in an appropriately bombastic arena-rock sound that recalls the heyday of bands like Asia and Kansas. In addition, Hall's voice is a powerful tool perfectly suited to throwing around a little fire and brimstone, often sounding like a cross between Nickelback's ...

$12.65 XYZ TO RELEASE 'FORBIDDEN DEMOS 1985 / 1991'www.xyzmuisc.com(September 20, 2005 - Los Angeles, CA) XYZ fromtman Terry Ilous has goneback into his archives and discovered eighteen songs that the public hasnever had a chance to hear. "Some of these songs should have ended up onthe first or second cd," relates Ilous. "It's about time they made it outto the public because they bring back such great memories of that wholetime period."Arriving in Los Angeles from Europe in 1985 Ilous and XYZ bassist, PattFontaine set about finding compatible band members to help make their"rock star dreams" a reality. "It was very hard to form a band iat thetime," recalls Terry. "I only spoke Spanish and French - not so rock ' n'roll, you know - finally destiny sent me 2 winners Marc Diglio and PaulMonroe. It took a while to find them but it was definitely worth it."The band slugged it out on Hollywood's famed Sunset Strip for four yearsalongside the likes of Warrant, Bang Tango, Guns 'N Roses and others who, like XYZ, went on to see various degees of success in the music world. While playing the club circuit, XYZ also spent a lot of time demo-ingtheir material and presenting those demos to every label that would accepta package. Terry: "I always loved the song "Cant Get Over You", which Iwrote for my wife. We spent every dime we had demo-ing those songs. stilltoday they mean a lot to me and I know the fans will love them as much asI do!"'Forbidden ...

Lifesong
$9.59 Some eight years since Slint's Spiderland forever altered the indie-rock landscape, it's arguable that any valid derivations can still be fashioned from its blueprints. To be sure, Ativin's members never denied Slint's influence on their music. But over the course of an EP, a single and a full-length album, Ativin moved well beyond the pummelling soft-to-loud transitions of Slint and toward a highly distinctive blend of treated, interlocked guitar grooves, firm rhythmic manuevers and electronically-enhanced atmospheres.
All of these elements are served at precisely the right temperature on Summing The Approach, a posthumous four-song EP recorded by Steve Albini that serves as a satisfying final chapter to the Ativin novella. Summing does not abandon the calling cards of 1998's ...

$16.45 The cd âAFTER THE WARâ is a product of many different influences over the years, as am I. I was a part of the AUSTIN TEXAS MUSIC SCENE from 1970 to â82 , having had songs cut by WILLIE NELSON; âHANDS ON THE WHEELâ on Willieâs RED HEADED STRANGER ALBUM, which got a grammy nom., went GOLD, PLATINUM then DOUBLE PLATINUM and also played several of his 4th of JULY PICKNICS , recording on the LONESTAR COLUMBIA LABEL from â76 to â78 , during those wild and wooly years I also worked and traveled with JERRY JEFF WALKER. JJ cut âTHE POT CANâT CALL THE KETTLE BLACKâ, âLEROYâ, âTHE FIRST SHOWBOAT â, âPASS IT ON â and several others I had written in those days. I also wrote the title song to the movie âTHE ELECTRIC HORSEMANâ with J Fonda and Robert Redford and played with a fellow named Roger Bartlett on the soundtrack of the âTEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACREâ. I walked away from it all in late â82 sick to death on cocaine ...
