| | Yolanda Adams Mountain High... Valley Low CD (1999)
Call On Jesus Everyday
$5.99 MOUNTAIN HIGH...VALLEY LOW won the 2000 Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Soul Gospel Album.
'90s gospel phenomenon Adams' major-label debut is about as high-gloss as it gets--the great production team of Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis is all over it--and if you weren't paying careful attention, you might not even notice that it was religiously themed; ...

| | Mike Curb Greatest Hits CD (1988)
Call On Jesus Everyday
$7.99 It's no mystery why Disneyland adopted the Mike Curb Congregation's rendition of "It's a Small World" as the official version of its theme song -- the group's clean-cut optimism and genteel style is a ringer for the pop choruses of the '60s, and bears more than a passing resemblance to their Osmond Family labelmates. The group scored most of their hits while backing other MGM artists such as Little Jimmy Osmond and Sammy Davis, Jr., but had one major hit on their own with "Burning Bridges" from the Clint Eastwood film soundtrack Kelly's Heroes. Greatest Hits contains the original recordings of every Mike Curb Congregation song that registered on the ...

Call On Jesus Everyday
$20.55 R U STILL DOWN? (REMEMBER ME) contains rare and previously unreleased songs from Tupac's personal vault.
Even after Tupac Shakur was tragically gunned down in Las Vegas, his legacy continued to live on through his music. In addition to the 2pac albums we all love and have become familiar with, there are posthumous testaments to his talent like R U STILL DOWN, which contains songs that were unreleased at the time of his death. Having left a large body of work behind, 2Pac continues to voice his opinion and is still among the most powerful rappers, even after his untimely passing.
The first release on his own Amaru Records, R U STILL DOWN? [REMEMBER ME] was overseen by 2Pac's mother, Afeni Shakur. This album features a younger, more inexperienced ...

| | Michael English Freedom CD (1996)
Call On Jesus Everyday
$5.65 Freedom is Michael English's first purely secular effort. With its slick production and layers of synthesizers and lush guitars, the album is clearly intended to cross over to adult contemporary and easy hits radio stations. And, on the surface of things, it would appear that English's stab at pop acceptance is indeed successful. After all, he has a pleasant voice and a winning personality, not to mention good looks. What he doesn't have on Freedom is a set of songs that match up to the standards of pop radio. Every now and then, there are strong hooks -- such as "Your Love Amazes Me" and "Love Has a Mind of Its Own" -- but, more often, it is bland and undistinguished, simply coasting along on its own stylish production. Freedom works well as pleasant background music, but there is nothing to remember once the songs are over. ~ Rodney Batdorf
