Is it possible for a band to list the same influences as progressive metallists Dream Theater (Yes, Mahavishnu Orchestra, etc.), as well as bands from the complete opposite end of the rock spectrum, like Nirvana? The Mukilteo, WA, trio Fall of Troy proves that it can indeed be done on their sophomore full-length, 2005's Doppelgänger. It's obvious from the get-go that the chaps -- all of whom are either still teenaged or barely in their twenties -- have obviously logged significant amounts of time "familiarizing" themselves with their instruments (in other words, long hours in their bedrooms shredding away), and melodic emocore elements can be detected as well. In fact, on tracks like "F.C.R.P.E.M.I.X.," you can't help but be reminded of Sunny Day Real Estate circa their heady Diary days. Elsewhere, the album-opening "I Just Got This Symphony Goin'" somehow manages to combine the two-handed guitar tapping of Eddie Van Halen with screams that would make Mike Patton proud. And you've got to love a band that comes up with whacked-out Zappa-esque song titles as like "We Better Learn to Hotwire a Uterus" and "Whacko Jacko Steals the Elephant Man's Bones." The Fall of Troy prove that, contrary to popular belief, not all young rock bands are longing to become the next blink-182. ~ Greg Prato

From the moment I first heard this album almost a year ago I've thought it was one of the most orignal Cd's out there. This is the best three-piece out there and they know how to make some sweet rock n roll-core music.

this band deserves five all around. scorching fast guitar, killer vocals, a true breakthrough. mind boggling lyrics, do i need go on? if you want something different, check out this cd

I really only got this today, and I must say its good. Nothing mind blowing, but not bad at all. I will say the biggest complaint i have is that fall of troy has an enormous potential to make some utterly amazing metalcore, and they don't seem to know it. All the elements are there, screaming is well done, and they obviously have more than enough skill for it, cause the instrumentals are incredible. But seriously guys, know your strengths. I'm not talking about just metalcore here, I'm talking the "you could top converge and fordirelifesake put together" sort of thing. And given how much I adore those two, its a scary thought. So, you're good, but oh god, you could be incredible.

Holy Crap!
This band is quickly becoming on of my favorites. They sound like At the drive in meets dillinger.I can not say enough about how amazing this band is.

Jobriath is a legendary unheard figure, at least among those who scour the odd footnotes of rock and pop history. When he released his two albums in 1973 and 1974 (titled Jobriath and Creatures of the Street, respectively), the emerging rock press considered him little more than a novelty, a cut-rate David Bowie, only more flamboyant, alien, and openly gay. His two albums sank without a trace and soon so did he, staying at the far margins of pop culture and singing as a lounge singer until his death from AIDS in 1983. In the years since his death, a cult grew around his records, which were now very hard to find and all the more mysterious and alluring for their rarity. During the CD reissue boom of the late '80s and '90s, he was never treated to a reissue, even when his image and music were core inspirations for Todd Haynes' 1998 glam rock fantasia Velvet Goldmine. Seven years after that controversial film, Jobriath's music finally saw the light of day on CD, thanks to Morrissey, who put out the Lonely Planet Boy compilation on his Sanctuary-distributed imprint Attack in November of 2004.
