$11.35 Bond, the scourge of classical music purists, follows up REMIXED with CLASSIFIED, the group's fourth release. Derided by traditionalists for its visual and musical flashiness, the sultry string quartet snubbed its nose at the establishment and won over legions of fans with the notion that Bach, Beethoven, and Brahms could be party music. Besides stunning looks and eye-catching attire, the foursome is known for its dynamic re-workings of well-known classical themes--high-octane blends of familiar melodies, world beat, electronica, and dance rhythms.
The group sets the tone right away with the aptly titled "Explosive," a typically high-energy romp penned by Tonci Huljic, a major contributor to Bond's early success. Bond makeovers are applied to Tchaikovsky's "Swan Lake," Pachelbel's "Canon," Barber's "Adagio for Strings," Bizet's "Habanera," and a raucous version of Khatchaturian's "Sabre Dance." The album also finds the quartet expanding its musical arsenal with some exuberant vocals on the disco-era hit "Fly Robin Fly," as well as "Samba," a Latin-flavored workout. Anyone looking for an academic approach to classical repertoire has come to the wrong place; CLASSIFIED is for the many who've been captivated by Bond's fun-loving approach to the classics.

$22.79 Once a fisherman told me. It was a windy day of dazzling light. The Eastern wind had chased away the humid Western Wind. From the lighthouse of Trafalgar you could catch a glimpse of the wind teasing the depths of the sea with its bristly beard of white foam. The fragrant pines, coming from that trapezoidal hill, dressed in green and crowned by the white tower of the Almadraba, blended with the smell of salt at the edge of the cliff facing the Moroccan coast. At the foot of the lighthouse stood a woman without her veil, staring at the orange strip of light that stretched along the horizon. The sun was about to bathe itself into the ocean. As it did, the woman dove into the blazing red orb of light shimmering on the water, leaving behind her a wake of shiny tendrils. A new night was born, giving life to the guitar. What these pieces of music have in common is the light of the Southern sun. That South which has the colors and the smells of Andalusia in its center. Where the sweet and sour taste of oranges leaves a trace in the way people sing and dance. These oranges are sisters of the Moorish ones. The voices in the street resonate with the echo of their ancient brother Morocco. Modulating tones is a ritual for the rough and melismatic sounds of two cultures that at times seem to be one. Their reciprocal gazes cast them off from those same Columns, sending them overseas to distant shores, loaded not only with the desire to explore and conquer but also with rhythms and sounds: music that crossed the Atlantic. Although it arrogantly tried to force itself on the New World, it couldn't resist the songs of sirens from other seas. © giuliano belotti, 2003.Since 1992, Giuliano Belotti, a classical guitarist, has made many public appearances and given numerous recitals and concerts in Asia, Europe, the United States and Mexico, in auditoriums such as Weill Carnegie Hall, Alice Tully Hall, The Juilliard Theater, the American Irish Historical Society and the Spanish Institute, in New York City; Auditorium Manuel De Falla in Seville, Museo de Arte Contemporanea in Alicante, Sala Galvé in Zaragoza, Spain; Salle Cortot in Paris; Teatro Gaetano Donizetti and Auditorium Piazza della Libertàin Bergamo, Italy; Teatro de la Ciudad in Queretaro and Teatro Juárez in Guanajuato, Mexico; DBS Auditorium in Singapore, and in Bandar Seri Begawan and in Panaga for the Brunei Music Society. Verdi" in Milan) and in Spain ("Conservatori Superior de Música del Liceu" in Barcelona).A recipient of a full scholarship, Giuliano Belotti pursued his Advanced Certificate in Guitar Performance at The Juilliard School, New York City, under the tutelage of Sharon Isbin for classical guitar and Carol Wincenc for chamber music.Prior to this, he was awarded in 1998, the Diplôme Supérieur d'Exécution, àl'unanimité of the jury, at the Ecole Normale de Musique "Alfred Cortot", Paris, while studying under the guidance of Alberto Ponce.
