Along with fellow iconoclasts such as Man Man and the Liars, avant gardists Gang Gang Dance grew sideways out of the mid-2000s post-punk revival. Eschewing traditional song structure in favor of a sonic maelstrom of kitchen-sink percussion, tribal chanting, and strangely organic discord, their debut album HILLULAH hews closer to the early Residents or This Heat than to Gang of Four, but is as confrontational as any of them.
This is an Enhanced CD, which contains both regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files. Gang Gang Dance Hilulah Songs Hilulah Review

Hilulah album
$11.49 Erase Errata's second album, At Crystal Palace, continues the band's ongoing flirtations with order and chaos, ping-ponging between the two with such ease that it's clear that even their most disjointed moments are under their control. Songs such as "Driving Test" and "Go to Sleep" are as angular and tense as ever -- the way Jenny Hoyston snarls "Go to sleep!" on the latter ensures a string of nights spent with eyes wide open -- but every now and then the band lets down its avant-garde and allows some melodic, and even poppy, moments to exist within its formidably sharp music. "Ca. Viewing" is one of Erase Errata's most accessible songs, at once prickly and playful. Meanwhile, "Let's Be Active c/o Club Hott" and "Surprize ...
| | Bill Laswell Roir Dub Sessions CD (2003)
Hilulah CD music
$8.99 Few American record labels have done more to further the cause of modern dub than New York's ROIR imprint, which has not only reissued classic dub recordings, but also actively encouraged contemporary artists to reinterpret the tradition according to their own vision. And since bassist and producer Bill Laswell is among the ...
| | Los Lobos Ride This: The Covers EP CD (2004) Extended Play
Hilulah music CDs
$8.19 COVERED features cover versions of songs by artists who contributed to Los Lobos's 2004 album RIDE.
Los Lobos are, quite simply, one of America's great rock bands, and versatile enough to put their stamp on practically any sort of music they choose. Anyone looking for proof of this assertion ought to pick up Ride This: The Covers EP, in which the band runs through seven tunes from other artists, most of which were recorded during the sessions for Los Lobos' fine 2004 ...

| | National Trust Kings And Queens CD (2006)
Hilulah CD music
$13.85 Chicago's National Trust performs an ironic but respectful version of early-1980s funk, complete with beatboxes, antique synthesizers, and falsetto vocals. Its second album is an attractive blend of vintage-sounding R&B dance tracks like "It's Just Cruel," breathy Prince-style vocalizing ...

| | Turin Brakes Ether Song CD (2003)
Hilulah album
$13.95 Since their first release on Anvil Records way back in 1999, Ollie Knights and Gale Paridjanian's Turin Brakes has enjoyed a meteoric rise, making the short list for Best Newcomer at the annual British Music Industry awards before underlining the not inconsiderable sales of their inaugural full-length, The Optimist, with a Mercury nomination shortly afterwards. Notably, they didn't win, but both assisted in building a groundswell of support into a veritable force majeure which resulted in this sophomore follow-up cracking open the U.K. Top Ten on the week of its release. While ...
| | Joykiller Ready Sexed Go CD (2003)
Hilulah CD music
$10.39 While Ready Sexed Go! contains the first new Joykiller material in six years, it's also a retrospective of the California punk supergroup, offering tracks from all three of the band's mid-'90s studio albums. As such, it acts as a time line of sound, tracing the trajectory of Jack Grisham and his merry men from a T.S.O.L.-influenced punk/goth combo straight through to the multi-instrumental nuances of their later work. With Grisham's former bandmate Ron Emory along as a sideman for 1995's Joykiller, the album wavered between hardcore, punk revivalism, and gothic twinges. Emory is spectacular throughout the eight songs that appear here, particularly on "Love You More Dead" and "She." By 1996's Static, Joykiller had become a tightly wound pop-punk band, suggesting the Buzzcocks if they grew up in Huntington Beach with a stack of Beach Boys and Monkees records. "Sad" and "What a Girl" are theatrical, electrical, and full of mature touches ...
