Along with Gil Evans, Lennie Niehaus, and George Russell, Manny Albam is considered to be one of the more important large ensemble jazz arrangers of the late-50s and early-60s. He made very few albums under his own name, which makes this 1957 outing all that more vital. The 19-piece band features the likes of Phil Woods, Al Cohn, and Milt Hinton.

The legendary album Blues Is Everybody's Business is widely regarded as the definitive work of one of the finest modern jazz arrangers of all time, the great Manny Albam. Recorded in September & October, 1957 the album features an all-star 19-piece band performing Albam's masterful charts. This edition also includes 7 bonus tracks all of which are featured here for the first time ever on CD. The first 5 tracks pertain to all of Albam's charts recorded on Larry Sonn's LP 'The Sound Of Sonn' recorded between 1955 and 1956 and featuring another all-star 19-piece band. The final 2 tracks are live versions of Albam's charts 'Zanzy' and 'Ida Bridges Falling Down', recorded by Larry Sonn's big band in a concert produced and emceed by All Jazzbo Collins. Gambi. 2005. Blues Is Everybody's Music Review Average Rating: (5 out of 5 stars)  ARRANGER'S MASTERPIECE FINALLY ARRIVES
This album is from the "golden age" of 50's recordings, when composers and arrangers could create a soundscape on lp, using the cream of New York musicians. One look at the listing of players should be enough. Put this on the shelf along side Bill Pott's "Porgy and Bess", Brookmyer's "Stormy Monday", Al Cohn's projects, and a few others. I have waited for this on cd for a long time and am thrilled it is finally here. The bonus big band tracks, also arranged by Albam, are a treat,as well.

Even though the 4 parts of "The Blues Is Everybody's Business" are fairly lengthy, they are never boring. This is without doubt some of Manny Albam's finest writing for a Big Band.
Featuring an All-Star NYC Band with all the usual suspects from 1957, including a magnificent string section on Part 2 & 3. This was Jazz in the 50's at it's best.
Not to be overlooked are the 9 bonus tracks that feature another Big Band from NYC in the mid-50's conducted by trumpeter Larry Sonn. This new label Gambit is not a cheapo, excellent graphics, a nice booklet, and good sound quality.
