With harmonies reminiscent of the music of their famous musical parentage (the group featured children of members of the Mamas & the Papas and the Beach Boys), Wilson Phillips scored a bevy of hits as the '80s gave way to the '90s. This budget-priced EMI compilation tackles the whole of the threesome's career, including the #1 hits "Hold On," "You're In Love," and "Release Me."

Purchase Best Of CD To buy, Click on price to add to cart | Nick Lachey Soulo CD (2003)
Best Of album
$12.79 While boy bands are hallmarks of the pop world, it's easy to forget that their music echoes the soul music of the past decades, a connection that 98 Degrees member Nick Lachey alludes to in the coy pun title of his solo debut, SOULO. 98 Degrees followed the Backstreet Boys and N Sync in the Orlando boy-band outbreak of the late-1990s, but they still garnered their share of hits. Lachey, who gained notoriety in 2003 for his appearance on the reality show NEWLYWEDS with wife Jessica Simpson, is the first of the 98 boys to emerge with a solo outing. Befitting Lachey's past and his album's title, the music on SOULO is exactly the sort of smoothed-out, poppy R&B one would expect.
SOULO opens with a blast of horns and a touch of electronica, before launching into George Michael-esque blue-eyed disco-soul on the affable "Shut Up." ...
| | Allman Brothers Band Instant Live: Alltel Pavilion At Walnut Creek - Raleigh, NC 8/10/03 CDs (2004)
Best Of CD music
$21.35 The final evening of their 2003 summer tour found the Allman Brothers planning a special night on the friendly turf of Raleigh, NC, wrapping up yet another road trip with invitations to Susan Tedeschi, Karl Denson, and truly serious jazzbo Branford Marsalis to join the group on-stage. It was all captured by the state-of-the-digital-arts folks at Instant Live, who burn CDs of the shows and make them available to concertgoers who still have a few extra green ones in their pockets by evening's end. On the sprawling three-CD set documenting these particular proceedings, there is indeed some fine music, although in his Allmans premiere appearance Marsalis doesn't fare as well as jam band-friendly Denson; the sax-blowing Marsalis brother (heard on "Dreams" and "Whipping Post") seems shoehorned between the guitars and strains a bit over the loud rock groove. Elsewhere, Gregg Allman is in fine voice, particularly on the slower numbers like the stellar read of "Gambler's Roll" from Seven Turns and the world-weary "Old Before My Time"; Derek Trucks is indeed a wunderkind as advertised; Oteil Burbridge is the most proficient bassist the ...
| | Trail Of Dead Worlds Apart CD (2005)
Best Of music CDs
$10.65 With its surging rhythms, angst-ridden vocals, and showers of distorted guitars, And You Will Know Us By the Trail of Dead combine the muscle of heavy rock, the sonic swirl of shoegazer bands, and a touch of emo sensibility into a powerful package. But while the noise-rock cultivated on earlier albums (MADONNA and SOURCE CODES & TAGS) is here, WORLDS APART shows Trail of Dead taking a step forward in terms of songcraft, with a surprising emphasis on melody and accessibility.
"The Lost City of Refuge," for example, moves along at a dreamy shuffle, and "The Summer of '91" begins as an ...

| | Do You Love Me Like You Say: The Very Best Of Terence Trent D'Arby CD (2006)
Best Of album
$6.75 Terence Trent D'Arby burst onto the scene in the 1980s with a mixture of R&B, funk, rock, soul, and pop that sounded unique and totally familiar at once. Unfortunately, D'Arby never followed up his breakthrough album with increasingly solid efforts. While the hit singles ...
| | Josh Turner Long Black Train CD (2003)
Best Of CD music
$10.25 Josh Turner seems to belong to a generation of country singers debuting in the late-1990s/early 2000s who were influenced by the middlebrow New Traditionalism of artists like Randy Travis and George Strait in the '80s. Accordingly, Turner's first offering, ...
| | Stacie Orrico CD (2003)
Best Of music CDs
$11.99 STACIE ORRICO was nominated for the 2004 Grammy Award for Best Pop/Contemporary Gospel Album.
Despite coming from a Christian music background, Stacie Orrico makes a full-fledged splash into the secular world with a self-titled album that puts her squarely amongst the Mandy Moores and Jessica Simpsons of the teen pop world. Like her secular sisters, Orrico has a big voice that fits hand-in-glove with the dance-pop template of this outing. The big difference is that this talented 16-year-old co-wrote a good percentage of these songs, which deal with weightier matters like the idea of life after death (the acoustic guitar-mottled "Hesitation") and spiritual beliefs (the soaring "Strong Enough"). Even Orrico's breakout single "Stuck" does an impressive job of intelligently addressing heartbreak in a way that's struck a chord with teenage girls everywhere. Reminiscent of Janet Jackson's finer moments, STACIE ORRICO is packed with a fusion of hard-hitting beats and well-written lyrics that are harbingers of greater things to come for this sharp pop idol.
Personnel: Stacie Orrico (vocals, background vocals); Kenneth Bell, Ken Bell, Anthony Anderson (guitar, programming); Corky James, Lynn Nichols, Kyle Cook, Tony Reyes, Carlos Pennell (guitar); Aaron Featherstone, David May (acoustic guitar); Kristin Wilkinson (violin, viola); David Angel, David Wilkinson, David Davidson , David Angell (violin); Anthony LaMarchina (cello); Nashville String Machine (strings); Matt Rollings (piano); Mooki (keyboards, drums, drum programming, background vocals); Rick Sheppard (midi); Tedd T.
