(16 Customer Reviews)
A side project to the emo band Something Corporate, Jack's Mannequin allows vocalist/keyboardist Andrew McMahon to indulge his passion for power-pop. A song cycle about a painful break-up, EVERYTHING IN TRANSIT applies undeniably catchy melodies to a narrative of emotional turmoil, with McMahon often evoking a younger, edgier Ben Folds. Although McMahon was diagnosed with leukemia shortly before this album's release, these dynamic tunes reveal an uplifting tenacity.
Jack's Mannequin: Andrew McMahon (vocals, harmonica, piano, organ, bells); Jim Wirt (guitar, bass instrument); Bobby "Raw" Anderson (guitar, background vocals); Patrick Warren (accordion, chamberlin, Moog synthesizer, sampler).
Additional personnel: Tommy Lee (drums); CJ Eiriksson (programming).
This is an Enhanced CD, which contains both regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files. Buy this or be deprived. Seriously. This is far by one of my most favourite Indie rock albums I've listened to. The first song, "Holiday from Real" is one of my favourite songs EVER and sets the bar really high for the rest of the album. Amazingly every single song thereafter matches it with ingenious and very original lyrics and melodies that speak right to the heart. Another great song from the album is "MFEO", where Andrew manages to blend two songs into one seamlessly with a great piano intermission. The rest of the songs are really great too; no words truly can describe how fantastic they are so you HAVE to get this album. Believe me, it's worth every single cent. | | X-Treme: Greensleeves Rhythm Album, Vol. 12 CD (2001) (Import) United Kingdom
Everything In Transit album
$16.55 Greensleeves' one-riddim series continued with volume 12, featuring the X-Treme riddim, created by In Streetz Records' Byron Murray and Clifford Smith. And it's an incendiary one, with three artists having already ridden this riddim onto 7": Mr. Vegas with "Duppy Durex," Buccaneer's "Balm the Dead," and Bounty Killer's "Liberty," with another 17 versions stuffed onto this set.
Capleton ferociously kicks off the comp, Mr. Vegas returns to give a big up to the new generation of dancehall heroes and a shoutout to the old, but then Elephant Man stomps all over that feel-good atmosphere, spewing his prejudice on "Bumber Claat." Gay-bashing is now all the rage, and so he's joined later in the set with ...
| | Harry Connick, Jr Songs I Heard CD (2001)
Everything In Transit CD music
$6.99 SONGS I HEARD won the 2002 Grammy Award for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album.
Never content to rest on his laurels, Harry Connick, Jr. wrapped up the end of 2001 simultaneously releasing the mostly solo 30 and the more complexly arranged SONGS I HEARD. The theme for the latter collection of songs can be traced to material heard by Connick as a youth that he decided to pay tribute to and have some fun with a little later in life.
Not surprisingly, children's films prove to be an excellent source of material. "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious" (from Mary Poppins) becomes an infectious, ...
| | Rogue Wave Descended Like Vultures CD (2005)
Everything In Transit music CDs
$11.65 On its second Sub Pop album, DESCENDED LIKE VULTURES, the San Francisco quartet Rogue Wave makes a notable departure from its debut, OUT OF THE SHADOW. While the earlier disc has an airy, lo-fi sound that's enhanced by subtle electronics, much of VULTURES is amped-up indie-rock bolstered by dense arrangements. "Publish My Love" features alternately chiming and driving surges of guitars, while "10:1" careens along on layered keyboard lines and a propulsive beat. Frontman Zach Rogue often sounds like a less troubled younger brother of Elliott Smith, particularly on the record's mellower moments, including the folk-tinged "California" and the dreamy "You." Although Rogue Wave ...
| | Jonah Smith CD (2006)
Everything In Transit songs
$11.89 Mixing blue-eyed soul vocals with swampy Southern Americana, Jonah Smith taps into a distinctive and inviting singer/songwriter groove on his nationally distributed debut for the Relix label (he has two previous indie records). The sound is similar to that of the Band, reinforced by the appearance of that group's organist/horn player, Garth Hudson. Even though Hudson only officially contributes to one track, his presence looms large over the project. Still, this is very much Smith's album, and it is his songs and especially his warm voice -- somewhat like a combination of the Band's Levon Helm and Richard Manuel -- that makes these tunes come alive. Most songs ride a midtempo rhythm, barely breaking a sweat but connecting by sheer melodic force and Smith's charming, low-key singing. There is also a touch of Elton John's Tumbleweed Connection in the rootsy sound. ...

$7.59 | | Gorguts Considered Dead CD (1991)
Everything In Transit album
$12.19 Over 15 years ago, Canadas GORGUTS begun their contribution to this long overlooked genre, showcasing their knack for delivering extremely brutal tunes laced with brilliantly subtle melodies and intelligent arrangements. The result: one of the best-kept secrets in the history of death metal. Their debut album Considered Dead was unleashed in 1991. The album consisted of ten extremely catchy compositions that were not short on intricacy, speed and haunting melodies proof positive that GORGUTS were indeed worthy of their newfound status. Limited edition of 2000 hand-numbered copies.
One has to wonder if French Canadians Gorguts didn't actually intend to name their debut album, 1991's Considered Dead, "Considered Death" (no, not "Deaf"!), as its contents surely embody the purest form of old-school death metal. Or at least old-school death metal as defined by pioneering efforts like Beneath the Remains and Arise from Brazilians Sepultura: hyperfast, very technical, ultrabrutal, but also characterized by healthy injections of melodic guitar harmonies and slower doom sections. More importantly, like Sepultura (but unlike hundreds of also-rans) Gorguts were talented enough to pull this complex death gumbo off convincingly, using the potent double whammy of "Stiff and Cold" and "Disincarnate" to kick start both their album and career in great style. Ensuing eardrum ...
