A Dozen Furies: Bucky Garrett (vocals); Marc Serrano (guitar); Keith Reber (bass instrument); Mike Miller (drums); Joey Turner . Personnel: Marco O. Serrano, Joey Turner , D. Braxton Henry (guitar); Keith Reber (piano); Adam Johnson (keyboards); Mike Miller (drums). Audio Mixer: Josh Wilbur. Recording information: 379 Productions, Garland, TX. When a metal band gets its first exposure to the world through MTV rather than the more traditional route of dismal, dues-paying touring and word of mouth, it's a band that starts with a built-in backlash. Such was the case for A Dozen Furies, who won their Ozzfest spot through an MTV battle of the bands full of reality TV humiliations that no band should have to experience -- unless that band was shameless enough to sign up for such a show in the first place. So dues paying came in the form of licking up another man's loogie and as clean-up crew for Ozzfest, and then again as performers at Ozzfest, where reactions to these metalcore newbies (save guitarist Marc Serrano, who served one tour of duty with former Ozzfesters Unloco) was mixed, but ultimately positive. Which is certain to be the case with A Concept from Fire, an album that will leave metal purists nonplussed but will also find support from the same groundswell of metal and sensitive post-hardcore fans who have made names of As I Lay Dying, Shadows Fall, and Atreyu, to name just a few. Like those bands, there's a mix of thrash, melodic Euro death metal, and -- more than their contemporaries -- vocals that oscillate from maniac growls for the verses to soaring sweetness for the choruses. If there's any dividing line for listeners, it's likely to be the vocals. Those who can appreciate the ugly/pretty dichotomy will more than likely throw devil horns to the sky for A Concept from Fire, but those who don't will find one finger more than sufficient. ~ Wade Kergan Dozen Furies Concept From Fire Songs Concept From Fire Music Review Average Rating: (4.7 out of 5 stars) Straight up metalcore from MTV's Battle for Ozzfest This band is definitely one of the best bands to emerge from the metalcore scene. Although, in my opinion, Sanctuary has done a horrible job promoting and marketing the band, a band like this can't go unheard of for long. Songs like "An Idea And Some Rope", "Awake and Lifeless", and "The Cycle" prove that A Dozen Furies is destined for metalcore greatness alongside bands like Killswitch Engage, Shadows Fall, A7X, Atreyu, All That Remains, and Bleeding Through Submitted by adozenfuries (ATL, Georgia) Was This Review Helpful? Rockn' It is amazing how many talented, undiscovered bands there probably are out there. These guys won MTV's Battle for Ozzfest and this CD shows why. The guys are a really impressive band. This is one of the best CDs I have purchased in a while. Also, check out Manntis from Battle for Ozzfest. They are jammin' too! Submitted by Massdaddy (Wilson, NC) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Pretty Cool Starts Out Pretty slow with the very slow song "The Gift". But then it gets better with the next song "awake and lifeless" which sound pretty good the the drum beats and the double guitar. Push Away which was remastered agian from there ep "Rip The Stars Down" which i think sounds better. When it gets to "Idea and Some Rope" which by the way is one of the best songs on this albumn."The Cycle" Gets really good good first choose on a single i suggest a listen to it. "Lost In A Fantasy" which was another song from rip the stars down sounds the same one of the bands more melodic song. The last song "The Ill Will" which mixes screams with slow electric guitar play. All In All it's a good albumn to check out. Submitted by Dallas (Floyd) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Before establishing themselves as both a commercial and a progressive metal force, Seattle's Queensr˙che dealt classic metal steeped in English tradition. In fact, their 1983 self-titled debut EP, while largely ignored in America, became a sensation in the U.K. and Europe. The band displays an obvious Iron Maiden influence in their early songs, which often featured "dungeons and dragons" lyrical themes. Their classic "Queen of the Reich" is one such example (with a hilariously primitive adventure video to boot), while "The Lady Wore Black" displays more maturity -- a sign of things to come. EMI scored an extra point when issuing the CD version by adding "Prophecy," a phenomenal outtake from the Rage for Order sessions that helps make this a must-have release for Queensr˙che fans. ~ Eduardo Rivadavia The underground buzz that swirled around Queensryche's self-produced EP resulted in a major deal with EMI Records, without so much as a single live show. Much like early Fates Warning records, the band's sound was heavily influenced by the blazing drums and lightning guitar harmonies made famous by Iron Maiden. Vocalist Geoff Tate's soaring ...

Initial pressings include a bonus DVD. This is an Enhanced CD, which contains both regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files. P.O.D.: Truby (vocals, guitar); Traa (vocals, bass); Wuv (vocals, drums); Sonny (vocals). Recorded at Bay 7, Valley Village, California and Sparky Dark, Calabasas, California. P.O.D.'s 2001 release Satellite made the born-again Christian rap-metalists stars as they racked up hits with "Alive," "Boom," and the post-Columbine anthem "Youth of the Nation." It was clear that any follow-up would be hotly anticipated, but no one could have predicted the departure of guitarist Marcos at the height of the band's success. A crucial part of P.O.D.'s sound, Marcos seemed to combine the epic metal of Sepultura with the organic punk energy of Bad Brains and the searching spirituality of Carlos Santana. It was also unclear as to why he actually left, with both Marcos and the band issuing contradictory explanations that brought into question both parties' spiritual and musical convictions. One thing was clear though, it was going to take a strong creative force to make up for the loss: enter ex-Living Sacrifice fret-man Jason Truby, who joined the band just in time to record its single for the Matrix Reloaded soundtrack as well as the 2003 full-length Payable on Death. A darker album than its predecessor, Payable is built largely around Truby's precise slabs of distorted guitar. More quintessentially "metal" in his approach -- think Metallica -- and more of a conscientious technician than Marcos, Truby unfortunately lacks some of the unexpected spark that Marcos brought to P.O.D.. Fans of the band shouldn't find much to complain about here though, even if the overall sound doesn't stand out as distinctly from the nu-metal pack as Satellite did. Nevertheless, vocalist Sonny hasn't lost any of his Tom Morello meets H.R. attitude, and for the most part ...
