Best Of The Electric Company - Vol. 1 Movie Review Average Rating: (4.5 out of 5 stars) Good For Whetting the Appetite For the most part, fans of "The Electric Company" fall into one of two categories. One group is the youngsters who used the program in the 70s and early 80s to learn to read. The second group is the people (older siblings, parents) who loved the show, not so much for the educational advantages it provided, but for the comedy. "The Electric Company" was a FUNNY show. As Rita Moreno points out in her commentary on this set, the show was pure Vaudeville.
The problem with a collection such as this (and this is true of ANY "best-of" set, such as the recent "Best of" "Night Court" release) is that it is dependent solely upon the opinion of the individuals compiling the collection as to what is considered the "best of". A number of memorable skits (two of the Short Circus kids singing "Broccoli, how we hate you" and Rita with the male cast backing her as a 50s doo-wop group singing "Phantom of Love", for instance) are nowhere to be seen here.
To be fair, they did have a monumental task on their hands: take only 20 episodes out of the hundreds produced for a compilation. Perhaps they could release further compilations, featuring all of the "Love of Chair" episodes (one of the absolute funniest things seen on this show), all of Fargo North, all of Jennifer of the Jungle, etc. Or, perhaps they could just release every episode instead of trying to distill this fabulous show down to a measly "best of" compilation.

a review of the best of the electric company on october 25,1971,the children's television workshop(now sesame workshop)introduced a new show to help children ages 7-10 learn to read.that show i'm talking about is the electric company.this classic show ran on pbs from october25,1971 until april 15,1977 a total of 780 episodes over six seasons.this dvd set contains 20 of the show's best episodes from all six seasons each episode introduced by rita moreno and are complete episodes as originally aired on pbs.they is also show trivia plus interviews with rita moreno & june angela(julie) and of course,an interview with joan gantz cooney former president of the children's television workshop but the real icing on the cake is that at the end of each show you will see the old pbs id's.i trully recommend the best of the electric company to anyone who watched the show as a child and want to relive the memories of this wonderful show which is sadly,no longer on tv anywhere.i hope that shout factory& sesame workshop will put out another box set of the electric company as you will agree there are alot of episodes that need to released on dvd.so,to quote the phrase from the electric company tune in next time when you tec say we want more electric company. Best Of The Electric Company - Vol. 1 DVD
$9.69 In GOSFORD PARK, Robert Altman explores the English class system and master-servant relations via his preferred modus operandi of multiple characters and intertwining storylines, which he achieved so brilliantly in NASHVILLE. Featuring an all-star British ensemble cast, the film recalls both THE RULES OF THE GAME and THE REMAINS OF THE DAY, with a midpoint shift to an Agatha Christie whodunit. In November 1932, a phalanx of moneyed guests arrives for a weekend shooting party at the estate of Sir William McCordle (Michael Gambon) and Lady Sylvia (Kristin Scott Thomas). Mary (Kelly Macdonald), a fresh-faced, naïve new maid accompanies the sniping ...
