Swing Cafe album
$6.79 Originally released on Motown Records. Includes liner notes by A. Scott Galloway.
An 11-song snapshot of the Dazz Band's Motown stint that includes the not-often-featured "To the Roof," whose origins date back to "Take It to the Woof" by Cleveland, OH-based funk band Morning Maniac led by ex-Dazz Band member Kenny Pettus who's the lead voice on the Earth, Wind and Fire-ish "I Might As Well Forget About Loving You." But other than that, there are no surprises, just straight-ahead digitally remastered Dazz Band blasts that blow you away in CD format ("Let It Whip"'s ...
| | Ultra Chilled 01 CDs (2001)
Swing Cafe CD music
$15.95 This is a continuous in-the-mix CD compiled and mixed by DJ David Waxman.
Despite the rather unfortunate title, Ultra Chilled, Vol. 1 assembles some of the most established names in down-tempo electronica and trip-hop, mixing them with some relative unknowns. The flow from Dido to Gorillaz to St. Germain to Morcheeba is deceptively smooth, as is what will be most listeners' introductions ...

| | Brian Culbertson It's On Tonight CD (2005)
Swing Cafe songs
$11.99 With its seething, laid-back funk beats and steamy lyrics full of obvious references to romantic trysts, it doesn't get any sexier than Brian Culbertson's IT'S ON TONIGHT. A number of prominent crossover jazz artist lend their talents here. For example, the downtempo title track features a sensual R&B vocal from singer Will Downing. Later, saxophonist Boney James' mellifluous lines become the focus of "The Way You Feel." On "Secret Affair," relative newcomer Chris Botti plays Miles Davis-influenced riffs over a spacious one-chord vamp (and his use of a Harmon mute creates that smoky, late-night effect).
Kirk Whalum's silky tenor saxophone beautifully complements Patti Austin's soulful voice on "Love Will Never Let You Down," a seductive ballad about love's resilience. Instrumental tracks such as "Sensuality" and "Touch Me" combine relaxing ...
| | Luis Fonsi Paso A Paso CD (2005)
Swing Cafe album
$11.49 Luis Fonsi's sixth album, PASO A PASO, finds the Puerto Rican/Floridian singer in a pop-rock vein. On this 2005 outing, Fonsi opts for a lush, sweepingly cinematic sound that's filled out, on many tracks, by the Miami Symphonic Strings. The melancholy opener, "Nada Es Para Siempre," features atmospheric, Sarah McLachlan-esque instrumentation that perfectly complements Fonsi's smooth Spanish vocals and the song's dramatic mood. Although there are upbeat moments on PASO A PASO, particularly the soaring "Arropame" and the driving "Por Una Mujer," many tracks are mid-tempo ballads ...

| | Louisiana Saturday Night CD (1993)
Swing Cafe music CDs
$14.79 Like its predecessor (Another Saturday Night, also on Ace), this is a compilation of Louisiana swamp pop, the admixture of rock, country, blues, pop, and Cajun that continues to thrive in the region. Most of the 26 tracks are vintage sides from the '60s, although there are a few of later origin. Some of the artists are nothing more than names to anyone outside of the state, but actually there are a few more recognizable artists ...
| | Anita O'Day Young Anita CDs (2001) (Import) United Kingdom
Swing Cafe songs
$22.05 (Budget priced 4-CD box set) This set features 89 tracks and follows Anita's early adventures with Gene Krupa from 1941-42 and moves through the rest of the 40's with her work with Stan Kenton, and her first solo sides. The booklet tells her story and pr
Although it's been repackaged and reissued many times in many ways, Anita O'Day's pre-Verve output has never appeared so thoroughly (and so cheaply) as on Proper's four-disc box, Young Anita. Beginning in 1941 with her stint in Gene Krupa's popular band with Roy Eldridge, O'Day made an immediate impression, appearing on the hits "Let Me Off Uptown," "Boogie Blues," and "Just a Little Bit South of North ...
