Paul Petersen isn't the kind of artist who needs a very comprehensive retrospective collection, as in his brief career he scored one hit and only recorded a couple of albums. Collectables' My Dad does a decent job of gathering the highlights. It leads off with "My Dad," includes his Brian Wilson-produced surf rocker "She Rides with Me," and has eight other frothy tunes like "Girls in the Summertime" and "She Can't Find Her Keys." The only nagging thought is that anyone who has even a remote interest in buying a Paul Petersen collection is the type of person who would want a more in-depth presentation. ~ Tim Sendra Paul Petersen My Dad Songs My Dad Music Review Average Rating: (3.5 out of 5 stars) Hard to Find This is a good buy for a one of a kind CD and hard to fine. Submitted by itsmedadroth (St. Augustine, Fl.) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Catchy Tunes Paul Petersen charted more singles in the early 1960s than his TV sister, Shelley Fabares, and most of them are included here. This is far from Rock & Roll Hall of Fame material, but still a fun listen. My Dad was Petersen's biggest hit, but go for She Rides With Me and you won't be disappointed.
Too bad his duet with Fabares, Very Unlikely, isn't included on this cd or her cd release, Johnny Angel. Submitted by Michael (Nashville, TN, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

| | Brian Hyland's Greatest Hits CD (1994)
My Dad songs
$7.75 Brian Hyland's "Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polka-Dot Bikini" is one of those songs that straddles the line between silly and annoying, but the public thought highly enough of it to make it a number one hit in 1960. Listeners expecting a full menu of similar novelties will be surprised by Hyland's Greatest Hits. Spanning the years 1960-1970, Greatest Hits consists mostly of Hyland's ...
| | Enlightnin'Ment: Best Of Lou Christie CD (1991)
My Dad album
$8.39 Tracks recorded between 1962 and 1969. Includes liner notes by Harry Young.
Lou Christie only had about a half-dozen great songs to his name, which is still a better average than most pop singers. And what a singer he was, putting that freaky falsetto to its ultimate use on the glorious "Lightnin' Strikes," the ultimate chart-buster of 1965! "Lightnin' Strikes " was co-written by Christie's Pittsburgh mentor and muse, the bohemian songwriter-composer Twyla Herbert, who also co-wrote his early falsetto-driven hits, "The Gypsy ...

For those who've lived under a rock for almost 50 years, this review will mean less than nothing. The rest of us have no doubt encountered -- on some television program, a commercial for a K-Tel oldies collection, or, in rarer cases, songs floating in the background on a film soundtrack -- Frankie Valli's shattering falsetto fronting his rock and doo wop band, the Four Seasons. As certainly as other artists of the period are known by their signatures -- the Beach Boys, the Beatles, the Miracles, ...

| | Marty Robbins Drifter CD (1966)
My Dad songs
$10.29 Based on Marty Robbins' syndicated television series of the same name, The Drifter was one of the purest cowboy albums Robbins ever made. Though he had made several cowboy albums before -- indeed, his love of Western music informed much of his music -- the instrumentation and song selection on The Drifter was stripped-down and direct, concentrating almost entirely on epic Western narrative sagas. The lack of concise songs resulted in a less successful album by commercial standards -- only "Mr. Shorty" was a hit, while the "El Paso" sequel "Feleena" ran over eight minutes -- but The Drifter was one of Robbins' most artistically ambitious albums, as well as one of his most accomplished. ~ Stephen ...
| | Bobby Rush Folk Funk CD (2004)
My Dad album
$9.69 "Folk funk" is what Bobby Rush has been calling his brand of Southern-fried blues and soul for several years, and now it's the title for the second release on his own Deep Rush label, and guess what, folks, it is quite likely the best album he's ever done. Joined by Alvin Youngblood Hart on guitar and Charlie Jenkins on drums, with Rush handling nigh everything else, the sound for Folkfunk is stripped down to a basic rhythmic force, ...

My Dad songs
$7.39 This curious little collection features a dozen tracks of mostly early rock & roll and if there is a binding theme here, it would appear to be to include songs by late-'50s and early-'60s artists who at the time worked outside of the socially accepted box. That's all well and fine, ...
| | Hug Heroes CD (2007) (Import) Germany
My Dad album
$15.05 Swedish producer John Dahlbäck, cousin of Jesper Dahlbäck, had already released a lifetime's worth of music when Kompakt issued his first full-length as Hug. Prior to Heroes, there were over at least 20 solo 12" releases (as Hug, Huggotron, and Kaliber) and roughly as many with various partners (as Beckster, Hugg & Pepp, and Mark & John). Most of this happened before Dahlbäck turned 21. It could be the new standard for saturation. That level of productivity couldn't possibly leave enough time to ensure uniqueness in each release, and it's that issue that is the key factor in Heroes' fleeting pleasantness. ...
